if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

Claire (Julia Roberts) works for the CIA and Ray (Clive Owen) works for MI6. Originally hooking up at a party at the American Embassy in Dubai, the pair develop a sort of love/hate relationship with each other and finally realize that government work doesn't pay very well. So, to provide for their future (together or apart) they choose to join the cutthroat world of corporate espionage - which turns out to be at least as dangerous (and possibly more) as working for their former agencies. As much as I'm sorry to say it - that description makes this sound better than it actually is.To be fair, it wasn't awful. But it was a problem that in addition to the corporate espionage angle, the movie was a sort of romantic comedy - a problem because I just didn't feel that Roberts and Owen had much connection. I will confess right off that I've never been a big fan of Julia Roberts. Others think she's great. She doesn't really do a whole lot for me. She's OK - but here there was no spark between her and Owen; no chemistry. Their relationship was less than believable. The structure of the movie didn't appeal to me. That opening in Dubai took place five years before the main setting of the movie, and from that point on the movie jumps back and forth from the present to the past, unfolding the background of the story bit by bit. But even as it was all unfolded, I found myself increasingly confused. I like a good mystery, and some twists and turns, but trying to keep track of everything here was difficult. Who was working for whom? Who was working with whom? Or against whom? Or? I suppose if I had found the basic story more interesting I'd have been more inclined to put effort into keeping everything straight, but I didn't find it interesting. I was actually surprised to check and discover that there was still almost an hour left in the movie, when I thought it was reaching its end. There are a few humourous points in the movie - mostly revolving around the whole corporate espionage angle. ("Is it a cream or a lotion? Which is it?" Garsik demands as a report on a competitor's product is given to him.) To be honest, I found a lot of that believable in an exaggerated sort of way. But the movie as a whole just didn't appeal to me. (3/10)

Competiting CEOs Howard Tully (Tom Wilkinson) and Richard Garsik (Paul Giamatti) truly truly hate each other. Back in 2003 Dubai, Claire Stenwick (Julia Roberts) working for the CIA drugs and takes advantage of Ray Koval (Clive Owen) working for MI6. Five years later, both are working in corporate espionage but are surprised that they're on the same team. Claire has worked her way into corporate security for Tully. Koval is working under Duke (Denis O'Hare) who is running the operation and works for Garsik. Tully is introducing something revolutionary and Garsik wants to know. Claire and Ray can never truly trust each other as spies for hire.Tony Gilroy is the writer/director. I like this murky complicated written story. I really like Roberts and Owen. It's a fun spy versus spy with twists and turns. They have great chemistry together. The drawback is mostly the product. It's a bit of a letdown and I'm not sure the final twist is as compelling as it thinks it is. It feels like a big artificial twist to pull the rug from under the viewer. And I don't think it makes complete sense.

This One may be just a Notch too Clever and Complicated for its own Good as it Almost seems Apparent from the Get-Go that this is going to Alienate a lot of Leisurely Types that are Looking for some Breezy Entertainment to Kick-Back and Take a Break and Breathe Easily. Not a Chance. It is a Ramped Up and Rotated, Turned and Twisted, Back and Forth Film for Thinkers. it Challenges You Every Time it Flashes Back. it Makes You Pay Attention Every Time it Monologues. It Asks You to Listen Up and Stay Frosty. it can be Very Rewarding in the End but if You are not up to the Task, its going to Wear You Out and Put You through the Ringer. There are Laughs and Deadpan Delights with Two Movie Stars Backed Up with Two Leading Supporting Character Actors. So there is Clive Owen and Julia Roberts with Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti in Director/Writer Tony Gilroy's Snappy, Sizzling Rom-Com-Dram and it is All Done with Style and Glitz as it Makes Gleeful Fun out of those Corporate Types that are Very Serious about Shaving Cream and Toothpaste.

I never thought i will write my first review for such a disappointing movie. Slated as a con movie this movie cons its viewers in the end. For those who want to watch a Con Movie, this is my sincere request ...please DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME on this piece of nonsense. You can imagine that after rating almost 300 movies for this site i am writing my first review just to avoid people from further wasting their time in high hopes and getting nothing. And Flashbacks which were employed to add spice to the movie were in fact a great torture too...Moreover, the trepid and intransigent plot of the movie inundated with flashbacks invoked me to inveigh and to launch an invective but whatever i am writing here is just an iota of the degree how i felt about this movie
