an ambitious but ultimately ineffective debut endeavor.

This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Humbersi
The first must-see film of the year.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

I am assuming that this pile of dross was intended to go straight to the less discerning DVD market. It is exploitative, cliché-ridden, badly acted, badly scripted and the aforementioned monks are the only sympathetic characters in the entire film (with the exception of a couple of dogs on a refuse tip which turn in a very creditable debut performance). The only exploitation I witnessed was the depiction of Thailand as an immoral, flea ridden pit full of murderers, gangs and whore-mongers. I'm sure the Thai tourist board will pass on their thanks - though it's hardly an original depiction.Kevin Bacon. It has to be said that his credibility has been gradually slipping down the toilet - and in this he continues his downward descent. Most extraordinarily in a faux Australian- British-'Gawd bliss ya Meery Poppns' Dick van Dyke accent. At first, I had assumed his voice had been dubbed, I wish it had been. The violence is comic strip, video console style - this serves to further detach the viewer from any empathy to the characters or interest in proceedings.A local girl crops up regularly. Not sure why. All in all, think how far you could have got with the decorating in one and a half hours.

I am a very big Kevin Bacon fan. I was disappointed with his character in this movie. I couldn't get passed the accent. I was also not keen on the actress playing the part of Mae.On the other hand, Djimon Hounsou played a great role. I will admit that sometimes I felt that he was invincible. But I still say that without him I wouldn't have scored the movie so high. This movie made me aware of how much child prostitution goes on in different parts of the world. I couldn't believe how these young girls were treated (drugs, beatings, forced sex etc.).All in all it was a good movie. Worth watching.

There are some good things one can say about "Elephant White". As is the trademark with movies made by Millennium Films, the look of the movie is outstanding. The cinematography has rich colors, and the rest of the movie looks sleek and expensive - this movie could have played in theaters. There are also some decent action sequences, and it's nice to see the lead role being played by someone of African descent, something you usually don't see in a direct-to-video movie. But there are also some parts of the movie not deserving of merit. Kevin Bacon (what's he doing in a direct-to-video movie?) gives a strange performance, speaking his dialogue with a weird accent. The movie's story contains no surprises, even with the supposed twist that comes near the very end. And the events of the movie unfold somewhat slowly - the movie could have been tightened up a bit.In the end, this isn't a movie to seek out. But if it comes on cable during a slow day, you could find worse ways to spend your time.

I usually am not so picky with movies I see, I am not a harsh critic normally. But, this movie Elephant White has to be one of the WORST movies I have seen in my life. It was so embarrassingly AWFUL. How can Kevin Bacon do a movie like this!! First, the movie made ZERO sense, the plot was terrible. And Kevin Bacon had this terrible British accent...I cant believe 2 great actors would agree to do a movie like this.....what a joke and an insult to Hollywood....I don't even know if they got paid for this movie, but if they did it would be a disgrace...What a waste, really if you see it you will think it is a joke! I would give it a 0 out of 100. It was simply that BAD!
