Tockinit not horrible nor great
ShangLuda Admirable film.
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Paul Magne Haakonsen "Elevator" doesn't really bring anything to the party, so to speak, that hasn't already been seen in other movies of similar concept. I mean, if you have seen one movie with people stuck in an elevator, then you basically seen them all.And while "Elevator" did have some good moments, I can't claim to say that it is a particularly outstanding or memorable movie. The story, like all others of this type, is about a group of people trapped in an elevator, and as anxiety sets in people show their true, and often ugly, nature. But wait, just for a twist, there is a bomb on the elevator too. What worked for "Elevator" was the acting, a good cast and the dialogue. As for the story itself, not so much."Elevator" is hardly a movie that made a lasting impression, and it was just too bland and generic even for this particular genre of being trapped in an elevator, if there is such a thing.Predictable at every point, the movie followed a very scripted how-to-make-a-trapped-in-an-elevator-movie guidebook.I am forced to rate "Elevator" a mere four out of ten stars given its weak storyline and lack of ability to captivate and entertain.
James Donnelly The synopsis of this movie caught my eye - A bomb in an elevator with 9 people trapped inside. I had no idea who was starring in it. And the first person I recognised was Devon Ratray aka Buzz from Home Alone. His parts in recent years was as a loser or a bad guy. And in a way, this was the exact opposite. I also recognised the comedian too. Thanks to IMDb, I see that the cast even included a multi-award nominated actress who plays an integral part in the plot of this claustrophobic thriller. Her comes the negatives though. Its classed as a thriller, but its not exactly thrilling. It was shown on the Horror Channel, there's nothing really horrifying about it. Apart from a bloody scenes. And the drama - well, I guess that's the best genre to put this in.The plot is rather thin and has one or two plot holes! Its not that bad a movie - I've seen much much worse, but definitely one that I won't need to see again for a while!
rajivness nice plot. a group of strangers stuck in an elevator. very similar premise to M Night Shyamalan's Devil. The movie was engaging with a fast paced energy. We are introduced to the main characters - wealthy CEO (with spoilt grand daughter), investor, employees with history between them, CNN News Reporter, Security Guard and Comedian. The characters are all somehow related. The movie reveals pieces of the overall puzzle - which keeps the audience engaged. The biggest disappointment is when the 'villian' does the big reveal and there's no mystery anymore. Then it becomes a movie of people trying to survive - which is empty drama.Movie had potential to be really good. 4/10 because it lost the plot very early.
Leofwine_draca ELEVATOR has a decent set-up: a group of characters are trapped in a stuck lift, and one of them holds a secret that's going to put them into a dangerous situation. It's a clear copy of the recent Shyamalan-produced horror movie DEVIL, except this one's non-supernatural. The box proclaims that it's the film that DEVIL could have been, but that's a downright lie.Because ELEVATOR is a disappointment. Sure, the set-up is fine and the character mix is okay. You can't really fault the acting, either, even if most of the cast are unrecognisable aside from THE FLY's John Getz playing a typically jerkish character. Everyone puts in solid, if unspectacular performances, and I did like Joey Slotnick as the loud-mouthed comedian despite his character's brash, irritating nature. The problem with this is the script. It's fair to say that nothing really happens in ELEVATOR, and there's certainly nothing here to make this unmissable viewing. I can think of two good, suspenseful sequences in the entire movie, and the rest of it is just endless build-up leading to a pay-off that never arrives. I actually enjoyed the first half more than the second, purely because of the expectation value. The ending is particularly disappointing and lightweight. This should have been much better than it is, because Stig Svendsen does a good job of shooting within the claustrophobic confines of his small-scale set and there are all the right ingredients; it's just that they don't amount to much in the end. And the incredibly irritating girl in it should have been killed; it was criminal that she never got punished for her daft actions.
