Steineded How sad is this?
Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
seelanpalay Bad acting. Bad plot. Bad cinematography. Even the titles look bad! I could not believe this was made in 2003, could have been 1993 for all I knew. Can't wait for the part where you watch the lead actor get on a boat and yell "America!". One of the worst scenes I've ever seen. But you know, if you had nothing to do at all while sitting in a hotel, and there was nothing else in English on TV, and/or needed some sound in the background while you work, this movie could be of some use.Really makes you wonder if this film got into cinemas just because it's anti-Cuba.
samadd2008 I watched this movie with a group of medical students and their families in Miami. There was not a dry eye in the house. The scenes actually shot in Cuba drew many sentimental remarks. They were authentic and validated by the older Cuban refugees in our group. The action scenes were exciting. I especially enjoyed the scene between the Commandante and Hector. It is one of the best scenes I have ever seen, bar none. The ending was a complete surprise. After reading the other comment (by Matt) I see this movie is not for younger cinema wannabees who must criticize to validate themselves. I do not understand those people. Sure, there are a few elements which do not match Spiderman, but the story and actors make up for an such deficiencies. The awards the movie won tells the real story. I recommend this movie.
Matt This movie is the worst i've ever seen. the plot was so predictable and you could almost tell what the actors were going to say before they even said it. this movie started out in one direction and then by the end of the movie it had gone completely off track and wasn't even close to what they started with. The actors were sub-average at best and the romance felt like it was just thrown in at the last minute to make the movie longer. there is no sense of time in this movie at all. what seems like a day is actually 3 months and there is no notification to the time passing. over all this movie is not worth seeing. i only watched it for a school project and it was painful watching it the entire time. never watch it or recommend it. i have no clue how this even made it on film.
dmfrenchsr This is a critical, yet honest review. In the old days, this might classify as a B-movie. There are no actors or actresses of note, and the characters are stereotypical. The script is plodding and predictable, even the ending. I cannot believe this ever made it into the theaters as I do not believe anyone would pay to see it once the word got out. Might appeal to some women, but expect that nearly all male and most female audiences will skip this film. May disappear soon from anyplace but archives.
