The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Frankenfish is an underrated masterpiece!WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!!!2004 was an interesting time for horror. Films such as The Village, Shaun and Dawn of the Dead (Remake), The Grudge, etc. Then came the low- under the radar horror that are somewhat unmentioned in the community. These films include,Ginger Snaps 2, a personal favorite DEAD BIRDS, and of course Frankenfish. Frankenfish is a direct-to-video film made by the syfy channel. The film was released by Columbia/Sony on DVD. The film was directed by Mark S. Dippe' who previously directed a personal favorite of mine 1997's SPAWN comic adaptation. The film stars Tory Kittles (Olympus has Fallen) as Investigator Sam Rivers (Nice pun). Next we have Tom Arana (Carnosaur) and Mark Boone Jr. (DEAD BIRDS) as Jeff and Joseph, the poachers of the film. Other actors include, Muse Watson (DEAD BIRDS), Donna Briscoe (The Sacrament), and Richard Edson (Platoon). The acting in the film is very over the top. There is a stoner, a good 'ol' boy, and a voodoo medium. But that being said the acting in the film is appropriate to the material. The material being a film about a giant fish monster (Not Award Winning Material). The Creature effects in the film are very well done. The titular fish creature (a Snake head Fish) is very well achieved. About 75 percent of the creature effects in the film are practical. The other 25 percent is CGI. Wait, Wait, i know what your thinking, "CGI in a film produced by the syfy channel, oh dear". Wait a minute, the CGI in the film is tremendous when you look at the budget and the syfy labels coming out today. The difference is staggering. Anyways, back to the practical effects. The films Practical effects were achieved by the talents of Rob Hall (The Burrowers, Fear-Clinic, Laid to Rest). His practical fish and puppet effects are amazing. Everything is very well done, really the effects in the film are the standout. The story is simple and that's what i like. There's a giant Snakehed fish and its hungry. Oh, yeah, it was created by the government. Shocker, Shocker, Shocker there. Overall, Frankenfish is a modern classic. It has everything one could want form a cheesy, low-budget syfy produced film, especially the effects in the film, there fantastic for the budget and the syfy label. The film is underrated, very underrated. The film is a highlight in the line of 2004 horror movie releases. Mark Dippe' did a marvelous job directing the film and everything seemed to work out. Yeah, the movies not perfect but that's what makes it a special. Two Fins Up!!!

An excellent fish-based take on the classic Frankenstein story. Must watch for any fans of Frankenstein, fish, or horror movies in general. There are quite a few very scary parts in the movie and it's definitely not appropriate for younger viewers. You'll probably want to avoid it if you get nightmares easily.Take my word for it, you're going to want to stay out of the water for a while after watching this one! My wife and I discuss it almost every time we order seafood now.Stop reading reviews and go out and rent or buy this movie right now. You won't be disappointed!

This movie was fun. I love killer fish movies. I have watched allot of them, from Jaws to Piranha 3D. The idea that something is in the water and it wants to kill you intrigues me. The film is about genetically enhanced Snakeheads who attack houseboats in a swamp in Louisiana, and its up to medical investigator Sam Rivers and the residents to kill these creatures before they become fish food. I loved this movie. Its actually better than the new film Piranha 3D in my opinion. Its a nice little creature feature. My favorite scene is when a guy kills one of the monsters and cuts out its heart and then puts it on a grill and eats it. I do have some complaints. Most of the film is dark and I couldn't see what was going on. I hated the boyfriend character, all he does is sit around, whine and complain, but I liked when he got drunk and said a bunch of random things. If you like films like Lake Placid, Anaconda and Jaws you will enjoy this film.

"Frankenfish" (ugh!) is a pretty good Creature Feature, starring a cast of lesser lights who do pretty well. The only cast members I recognized (Muse Watson who played Agt. Mike Franks (Rtd.) on "NCIS") gets killed off early, and Thomas Arana starts late. Probably helps with budget control. Interestingly (to me at least), three of the actors are from Louisiana. The lead females, Misses Aubert and Chow are both attractive, although Miss Chow's role is cut short by a (more than most) bizarre incident. The fish aren't bad, either. An out of town (but initially local) medical examiner (Sam Rivers played by Tory Kittles) and a Fish and Wildlife officer (Mary Callahan played by China Chow) set out into the Louisiana swamp in a small (12 foot, maybe) john boat to investigate the cause of a dismembered corpse. As the two, strangers to one another, motor away with their 10 horse put put, one says to the other "Looks like we have a four or five hour trip." You have to be thankful movie characters never have to pee. They meet up with Elmer (Mike Franks) who takes them back to the "village" where the dismembered corpse once resided, a collection of three houseboats moored in close proximity. Subsequently, Elmer takes the intrepid pair off to an abandoned motor launch where the trouble begins. Elmer gets et by the creature. Sam and Mary return to the moorage. The creature follows. Things go down hill rapidly from this point on. The cast gets smaller and smaller.Lots of action. Lots of gore. Lots of cast gulped down. On the whole well done and fun, as much as a creature feature can be. Oh, and the ending is mondo!
