Daninger very weak, unfortunately
Grimossfer Clever and entertaining enough to recommend even to members of the 1%
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Noelle The movie is surprisingly subdued in its pacing, its characterizations, and its go-for-broke sensibilities.
joelherro i hadn't heard much about this movie, but it was surprisingly OK.Ginji is a kamikaze pilot who doesn't end up flying his last mission because the war ends. So he goes into business with a friend selling stuff on the black market. After being betrayed by this friend, he does 50 yrs in prison. When he gets out his old friend is now the Prime Minister of Japan and is tracking his movements. Of course, he's an old man himself now and seems to have no real desire for revenge, and just wants to be left alone. Some interesting people cross his path and it seems fate wants him to meet up with his old friend. At times, seriously bloody, supernaturally strange, but mostly rather slow and reflective, i liked it more as it went along. OK, but not great. Worth the watch if you like Japanese cinema, watching dudes wielding samurai swords and have time to kill.
