Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
PiraBit if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
Payno I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
jkcanewton I've seen all the Godzilla movies....this one keeps me coming back. Godzilla flying through the air with a kick never gets old! I know this is about as bad a film can get, but this is the one I watch over and over.
O2D I keep watching Godzilla movies expecting them to get better and they just keep getting worse.I can not understand why they insist on having kids star in them either.Luckily in this one they say lots of ridiculous things. My favorite is "I reckon he means to harm us!" I thought Megalon looked silly but he quickly became one of my favorite monsters.Unfortunately, the story is so bad that it's hard to notice much else.A scientist built a robot that can do anything and it teaches itself to think. Then it goes to find Godzilla and proceeds to wave him in like a 747 approaching the terminal. There is a cool car chase scene but it's not enough to make this watchable.Another Toho fail.
Musashi94 All of the worst flaws of the Godzilla series are present here: an annoying child actor, an overabundance of stock footage, barely any screen-time for the monsters and a score so bad it makes your ears bleed. It just sort of feels like nobody working on Godzilla vs. Megalon really cared. The most obvious flaw is the abysmal production values. The film looks like it was filmed in the neighborhood by someone's house over the span of a few weekends. Most Godzilla films are not great art by any means, but they were major studio productions. The numerous technical problems, tiny cast and haphazard shooting style feels more like a Roger Corman B-Movie than something a major studio like Toho would produce. The plot is extremely thin, even by the standards of the genre, and might perhaps fill out a 43 minute TV episode, not a 90 minute film. To summarize, the Atlantis-like kingdom of Seatopia is angered by humanity's underground nuclear tests so they send Megalon, their 'god', to wreak havoc. They also decide that a robot called Jet Jaguar is important for some reason and attempt to steal him from his inventor, his best friend, and the inventor's irritating nephew. There are some fun, silly moments here and there - such as the notorious Godzilla dropkick - but they are few and far between. For the most part, the film can be summed up in two words: dull and cheap.Supposedly meant to star Jet Jaguar, an Ultraman clone, Godzilla was thrown in at the last second and the result is disjointed to say the least. Godzilla appears only for the ending battle, a brief scene where Jet Jaguar asks for his assistance and in a brief prologue sequence. Other than that, you're watching Jet Jaguar and the inventor's posse bumbling around, while occasionally fighting a secret agent from Seatopia who looks like Professor Snape. One is honestly better off watching the MST3K version, which is a much more enjoyable way of viewing the film.
LP Alienman Godzilla vs. Megalon was one of the DUMBEST Toho movies in the 1970's. The way they did the monsters in this movie looked embarrassing like Jet Jaguar for an example. By the end of this film, the song called "Jet Jaguar" was worse than the whole soundtrack and it should not have been part of the movie. The fight scenes in this film were so silly. It didn't feel like they were fighting, they looked more like kids playing with each other in costumes. The human scenes were as bad as the monster scenes. Godzilla's face really looked like a monkey instead of a dinosaur face, like it should have. The story was horrible in many ways. This movie didn't really feel like a Godzilla movie at all.
