Dreadfully Boring
Micah Lloyd
Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.

Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.

This is a very strange film. It makes little sense. It is also very long with not much happening. The story may seem simplistic until you look deeper and there are so many subtle detailed nuances that it can be a little compelling. Sadly the film drags along, like the men in drag in the restaurant, to the more awkward situations. I mean what the hell would you do if an old lady offered you breast milk to drink? Especially difficult to refuse her if she was very insistent that you sampled her home-grown milky goodness. The ending is utterly twisted but does not justify the whole film before it. It started David Lynch and ended David Cronenberg.

"Gozu" is the type of film I did not appreciate until I had a broader understanding of various cultural references to draw from. I first watched this movie when I was very young and starting to get into cinema and finished it feeling confused. Certainly some of the scenes scared me in a way (such as the encounter with the minotaur figure) but I didn't quite "get it." Although I don't think anyone "gets" Gozu, I can look at this film much better now than back then.Gozu, with its emphasis on the "friendly small town where something is horribly wrong beneath the surface" atmosphere, reminds me of a distorted, surrealist Stephen King novel set in Japan. This is the closest comparison I can make in my mind, although this does a disservice both to King and Miike since both of their works can stand on their own just fine. This film will not scare you in the traditional sense of the term, but it will make you feel uncomfortable and look over your shoulder more than a few times. Overall, if you want a unique, mysterious look into Japanese horror cinema, check out Gozu.

There are a number of weird blog writers I'm following, that are a lot more funny, can be even weirder, and many stories there (written in less than a day) have a better plot. A movie could, of course, add a lot of visual candy to go along with all that, but this movie sadly, does not. Most of the visuals were so poor that I could just amuse myself at the failed attempt. I understand not all movies have the budget, but in my opinion this genre needs it. I'm starting to believe that people reviewing movies are so bored of mainstream that they would just rate anything else. I've seen a lot of Asian movies and there are some masterpieces but that will never make me say that Asian movies are good, every movie needs to hold it's own. This is my first review, but I was so disappointed after finally realizing this is not at all a good movie but only slightly enjoyable at times. It might still be worth to watch to fans of the genre but if you're not into weird and dreamy atmosphere you should avoid this one.

Is Takashi Miike losing it? Lactating mothers spilling milk down her leg, a crazy Yakuza stomping all over a poor chihuahua, and slamming the pup into a window, and a poor woman almost blown away because the same Yakuza thought a car was sent to kill him after the chihuahua failed? All these make up this strange tale of intrigue between the Boss (Renji Ishibashi) and #2 (Sho Aikawa) in a Yakuza crew who are trying to kill the other before they themselves get killed.A yakuza horror film with some strange homosexual overtones, and, if now a fear of women, a certain repulsion on the part of the man (Yûta Sone) tapped by #1 to kill #2.And let's not forget some interesting characters met along the way on the road trip.Imagine Minami's (Sone) surprise at meeting Kimika Yoshino. And then, when you thought it couldn't get any stranger, it did.Miike gives us another example of his range as a director. He is certainly not losing it.
