Truly Dreadful Film
Salubfoto
It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.

Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
Darin
One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

Guzaarish (2010) (Urdu, meaning Request)
Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Watched: 8/2/18
Rating: 7/10 Ornate costumes/sets,
Magical realism aced-
Stunning visual treat. Mixed acting merit-
Compelling but overdone;
Works for song/dance acts. Too long/clashing themes-
Drama/laughs/musical?
Comedic slant fails. Deft narrative shows
Both sides to euthanasia-
But "Hinglish" hinders. Less than the sum of its parts,
But plus dazzling magic shows! Haiku Sonnets are comprised of 4 3-line haiku plus a couplet of either 5 or 7 syllables, adding up to 14 lines, the same number of lines found in a sonnet. (5-7-5, 5-7-5, 5-7-5, 5-7-5, 7-7/5-5)
Notes: Bhansali has been accused of borrowing or even plagiarizing from the unpublished novel "Summer Snow" (by Indian writer Dayanand Rajan) and the films "The Prestige" and "Mar Adentro". I personally agree with this last one; having noticed similarities that are almost eerie, making it difficult to believe that it is coincidental. "Mar Adentro" ("The Sea Inside") is a 2004 Spanish film starring Javier Bardem. A far superior film for a multitude of reasons, I highly recommended it as an alternative.

I am not a big fan of Bollywood movies, yet here I am, leaving this review in hopes to lift the fog on one of what I wouldn't hesitate calling, a genius masterpiece.Guzaarish is a story that will challenge EVERY stereotype and preconception about the style of Bollywood filming and narratives; the lack of dancing and merry singing, the lack of colors and peachy happy endings, and onto the real elements: the very engaging story, the epic heart-felt acting and the story- line at its best and finest honesty.This is a brilliantly successful magician who decided, after an accident, that his life is not worth another day, and despite the unconditional Love and support that surround him, he is so willing to defy the Law in hopes to be granted the HONOR of ending his miserably unhappy life.But the story is not about whether or not Ethan has been granted the earthly legal consent to end his life, it is much more than that.The story is very engaging and witty enough to invest in the viewers emotions, yes it does. There's a "magic" about the writing that captivates the breath- taking out of the viewers to delicately invite them to LIVE the life inside the heart and through the eyes of Ethan. There is this Indian magic spirit in the writing that allows us all to be part of a life of Ethan, to love and sympathize with him, to feel at awe with his magician skills, to care for him and want his life to be even longer, then to be faced with a personal desire of his to end his life. We, then, are left clueless, as well as Sofia and the rest.The writing has made a decision to make us mourn the loss of Ethan while he is alive, with happy tears, compassion, sympathy and Love. And to do that, Sofia, Omar and the rest are there to represent those feelings for us, at least, to transmit those feelings to Ethan.And while death is inevitable, and the truest truth of this life, it remains hard to cry and/or celebrate Ethan's life, simply because those around him have selflessly joined his desire to end his misery with the most enchanting, honoring and noblest party there is.If this movie could teach morals, it would undeniably be the one about, death and Life, about how we are so preoccupied with death coming that we forgot to rejoice the Life that offers itself with each sun rise.Rejoice Life even if you are nothing but a heart-beat away from the biggest journey, Ethan made that very possible and JOYFUL, writing books, hosting a radio show to inspire others, teaching a young magician and finally, ending life with the most beautiful Love story there is. {YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS PART, I PROMISE!!!!}

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has always made different films be it Khamoshi, though HDDCS was a conventional film and his biggest success ditto for Devdas, then he made Black and Saawariya(the latter tanked). Guzaarish has elements of The Sea Inside a Spanish film however it's well handled. The film is very abstract yet moving, the way Hrithik's character is shown deserves marks The mercy killing aspect may be not too convincing but yet there are several brilliant scenes in the film.Direction by SLB is good Music by SLB too is fab, Be it Sau Gram and other songsHrithik Roshan does the unimaginable, putting on weight and also conveying through expressions, he is simply fabulous in the role and deserves awards Aishwarya Rai too is amazing in her role Aditya Roy Kapoor is decent,Shernaz Patel is as usual rest are okay.

It's Magic, It's Magic..... Hrithik sang and danced to a magical glory in Koi.. Mil Gaya, a few years ago. And today in Guzaarish, he plays the Magician who mesmerizes us (the audience) with his wonderful, award winning performance as a quadriplegic patient, who at the very first scene of the film makes this Request (Guzaarish) that he seeks euthanasia (which is asking for mercy killing) from the law. Now, this is something very new to Indian Cinema. Rather new, it is First ever of this kind. And the Lead Hero's Request is supported by the entire limited star-cast - right from his doctor, to his best friend lawyer, his magician student, to his radio listeners to his mother and his nurse!Meet Ethan Mascarenhas who just can talk as a radio jockey and dedicate songs for his program 'Radio Zindagi'. While he chats on Live Life, he himself wants to End Life. With a few mini-flashbacks here and there, that shows us his past of being a classy Magician and performing an dangerous act, looses control and ends up being a wheelchair bound, semi-paralyzed patient throughout his life. Though, tragic and emotive, the film celebrates life even if it's inches away from the devouring jaws of death.Believe me, this is one of the most relaxed performance by Hrithik in his entire career. Relaxed because, he is only sitting in a wheel chair or lying on the Bed. And by doing so, he comes out with a very difficult act which he performs to perfection. Wow! If you thought Koi.. Mil Gaya and Krrish was one of his best, then you gotta see this! If Papa Roshan could get best from him, it is Bhansali who got Hrithik one of the best that no Khans deliver either.Ish... Speaking of Ash. After being very lively and entertaining in Bhansali's earlier HDDCS and Devdas, here she comes out with a very sensitive performance that is quiet, silent and classy! An eternal beauty she is class as Sophiya, who nurses Ethan for lifelong!The best dialog that still registers in my mind is: "I love God, and that is why I am dying to meet him!". Such meaningful and such disturbing at the same time. While we celebrate Life, its the climax scene of the film, that makes you shed tears at the finale thanksgiving speech by Hrithik as his guests and well wishers gather to celebrate his farewell. His death!This is a Bhansali's poetry on celluloid which deserves to be appreciated, applauded and recommended everyone to watch it! After being colorful and lively (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas), BLACK and BLUE (Oh, forgive him for 'Saawariya'), here it's MAGIC that is lavish in its sets, Hrithik and Ash's un-passionate yet beautiful romantic film (You need to watch it to believe it!).While the film is minus action, minus comedy and minus romance, its just plus points for Hrithik all the way! Slow in parts, but yet, the film deserves to be watched!
