Maidgethma Wonderfully offbeat film!
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
mraculeated The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
osmangokturk A Godard's movie hard to understand. A young girl is saying that she is pregnant without touching any man, like the Virgin Mary. However, nobody, including the the doctor do not believe. Lonelines, dissatisfaction, love is discussed very delicately. There is strong parallelism between the nature itself and the birth of a new person. in the movie everything is going aimlessly, only the basketball game is played meaningfully and seriously. Girls are playing basketball because it tries to create a contrast and draw our attention. The nature, the sun, the Luna are pictured gorgeously. In this great world human is just a boring and senseless creature. the music is interesting. very sudden appeareances of the sound tracks, just to underline the flow of the movie,
Claudio Carvalho The student Marie (Myriem Roussel), who plays basketball and works in the gas station of her father, gets pregnant without having intercourse. The taxi driver Joseph (Thierry Rode) becomes upset and the newcomer in town Gabriel (Philippe Lacoste) convinces Joseph to accept her pregnancy. Meanwhile the college student Eva (Anne Gautier) has an affair with her professor. In the 80's, the exhibition of the polemic "Je Vous Salue, Marie" was forbidden in Brazil due to pressure of the Catholic Church in the government. I believe this unexpected marketing is the greatest attraction of this boring movie. The screenplay is a complete mess and the soundtrack and the nudities of Myriem Roussel and Anne Gautier are the best offered in this pretentious philosophic crap. My vote is three.Title (Brazil): "Je Vous Salue, Marie"
yuhui If you like arty, incoherent, choppy films that make you go "Huh?", then this show is for you. Maybe it was the copy I saw. It started off with "The Book of Mary" for the first half hour, about a young girl named Mary whose parents are divorcing. After that, it's "Hail Mary" about a virgin basketball player who becomes pregnant. Is that correct? Does the young girl Mary become basketball player Mary? That's never explained fully. And who the hell is Eva and why is her story in this? That's never explained either. The dialogue was bad, or maybe something got lost in the translation. Also, it seemed to get mired in too much philosophy and angst. Overall, I wouldn't watch this film again... unless you showed me just the nude scenes. Those scenes were worth watching.
Peggy-7 I found a copy of this film for three bucks, I figured that was a great deal, even if it is in a different language (lucky for me there were subtitles)! When this film came out in the mid eighties it was all about controversy. Many people called the film Blasphemy, so what if it is, you don't have to watch it. But with all that aside, anyone who doesn't spend every night talking to a god, will proudly see this film for what it is, and was. AN AMAZING FILM, a classical TRIUMPH! If anyone can track down a copy of this at least TRY to watch it!On a scale of ONE to TEN, HAIL MARY gets a TEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
