Interesteg What makes it different from others?
Titreenp SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Myron Clemons A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
suparok69 Though the movie starts off at a some what slow-pace, it quickly snowballs into an in-dept look at the New York club scene and it's (behind the scenes) "club wars" & dramas. Knowing the films' two focal points (DJ Junior Vasquez & DJ Danny Tenaglia) personally, I can honestly say that this is no act. This is the kind of stuff that really transpires.. Small-level DJ's that start off as friends, say.., shopping for records together.. Notariety and fame comes into play for each (DJ) in question, and it equals nothing but competition and battles for the top-spot. Hence-forth.., some serious mud-slinging, fighting words. Would these two "artists" actually come to blows, meeting up face to face at the neighborhood bodega ?.. I doubt it. But it makes for good fodder for stationary drug-doing club-utants & die-hard fans of the pairs (or one) of the DJ's in question.. Point-blank.., it's entertaining, show business. Sort of like a Tupaq-Biggie thing, only more sub-cultured. The club patrons are colorful enough or as colorful as possible, in this type of venue; film. The jumping of one character/ storyline to another could be perceived as confusing if you don't pay close attention, or if you're really not interested in the New York club scene or its' inhabitants. Overall, I would say the film is mildly entertaining. Open minded movie-goers would definitely get more out of a film like "Paris Is Burning", which features people from the same scene.., about fifteen years earlier. My only complaint with this film, as writer/performer of the song ("IF MADONNA CALLZ.." by junior vasquez feat. FRANKLIN FUENTES) that this whole movie winds up being about and boils down to, is that I was never mentioned.. As a matter of fact, I think that it would be fare to say that I was erased out of this story all together. This in no way affects my feelings or review of this film. Oh well, it's like the song says, "If Madonna Callz, I'm Not HERE..!" I'm really.., NOT HERE !! PS. At the present time, I'm feverishly looking for a copy of this movie in any format. If anyone know's where (or how) I may acquire a copy of this movie, please contact me at [email protected]
Rex Hableur (MA) This vapid and superficial documentary was more of questionable amateurs attempt at pornography (of course, without the sex scenes). I was lent a copy of this 'film,' and laughed at the stylistic and directorial faux-pas that fill it's contents (like the fatty eels that fill the distended belly of a drowned horse). How many more of the pretentious student 'mocu-mentaries' must the public suffer? OK, I know one can turn it off, or not watch, or avert ones eyes, but why bother making it? Ahh, if the life of the DJ were only simple, and not so stress-filled. Too bad the filmmakers forgot to actually interview any of the subjects, or even know what they were setting out to do (other than shoot a home video). It is a shame to see wasted (talented?) energies like this. Better luck in your new professions.
sexyrob96 I first found this video in a shop on holiday, and as a DJ myself it took my interest. I took it home and watched it. It is such a laugh, and makes some very good points. People do slag DJ's but this shows both sides of the story. It is shot in a modern way and has very good visuals. It is also very uplifting and puts you in the mood for a party. I would recommend this to any DJ, but anyone else that does not take an interest may get bored. Brilliant!
PINAV A great and unique concept of relating music, youth, dj's and artistry. I went to the rave party and saw the movie and the ideology is: EXPERIENCE THE FEELING OF WHAT MUSIC CAN BRING TO THE SPIRIT AND MIND.... If people want to see what an artist will be in the next millennium, this is a genius way of seeing our world in a different perspective in terms of art and its interpretations.
