Sadly Over-hyped

Too much about the plot just didn't add up, the writing was bad, some of the scenes were cringey and awkward,

This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.

It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

Rick Bota returns as director, and again delivers a film in the form of a mystery thriller. This time about a reporter on an assignment to find a missing woman. In her search for answers, she ends up much deeper than she ever thought possible, and I thought Kari Wuhrer was rather good as reporter Amy Klein. The story was not originally written for the Hellraiser franchise; instead an existing script was converted for the series, and that's evident, as there's very little resemblance to the previous films. Just as with Hellraiser 6, there are way too many dreams and hallucinations. It is almost as if they had different ideas and opinions for the film but didn't know how to incorporate all of them, so they did so via means of the dreams and hallucinations. It wasn't scary, and it wasn't NOT scary. It wasn't bad, and not all that good either, but certainly more enjoyable than 3, 4 & 5 in the series. The stabbing scene in the hotel room was incredibly well done!! Pinhead again only appears very late in the film, and only stays around long enough to convince us this is indeed a Hellraiser film .

Wasn't expecting this to be great & quite frankly was right as it wasn't. Saw it 3 years ago & didn't like it, though for all those years after watching the Hellraiser films once again, I feel no different from this 7th sequel which just like it's cover & name "Deader" sounds as if they've ran out of ideas for the Hellraiser Franchise! The film is about Deaders & this reporter, or journalist goes in search from the greatest story cliché & uncovers a far bigger mystery than she could've ever imagined. She then comes across the Puzzle Box & foolishly like the others, opens it & unleashes hell, this time around the Deaders become the victims as with herself! The film felt very flat & boring. There wasn't much going on a lot of the time & being honest, felt very dry & gloomy (not in a good way). I also felt it was trying too hard in places & didn't really have anything iconic about it. It was bloody, give them their due, but the film felt flat & didn't really have anything redeeming about it! Even the first 2 films were better than this & that's saying something else. The actress Kari Wuhrer, playing this reporter/journalist was pretty hot & sexy but that is probably 1 out of the few redeeming things about this dull film I can think is good! It feels much like an anti climax of the previous 2 (Inferno & Hellseeker).Overall, weakest installment out of the 9 films. 4.0/10

Not sure why people hate this movie, but the set up and the subsequent installment of "Hellraiser" is a unique spin on the series. Not necessarily for the die hard Pinhead fans, but it plays like a Skin-a-max movie sure to win over the adolescent (in me anyway).director Rick Bota uses the locations to great effect. A rotten apartment in Romania, is gruesome, scary and is beautiful in it's sickness. Kari Wurher does a fantastic job at the sleuthing part. AND, there are subtle hints of a woman who has male trust issues. Key points NEVER voiced, but..things like combat boots, or having a oversexed banter with a co-worker. These are nice nuances of character that seem to have been missed because it is a Hellraiser tag and subtlety isn't what that franchise is known for. But I really liked this movie for having the guts to try something different. For those desperately wanting Pinhead as the central figure, this isn't your movie. For those who are into psychological punk'd out drama, this is a decent watch

The previous 2 movies in this franchise didn't really seem like a "Hellraiser" movie all that much. As a matter of fact this seems like the third installment of a trilogy of people that are going through psychotic breakdown. This movie is watchable for being a stand alone flick, but wouldn't have gotten as much attention if it weren't for the "Hellraiser" title. The story is about a semi-goth looking journalist starts to investigate her sister's death and her sister's ties to a underground zombie cult of some sort. And the more she digs, the more horrendous stuff she unravels and finds more than what she bargained for. Now this WAS first written to be a stand alone movie, but decided to rewrite it connect it to add Pinhead and the cenobites. By having the cult leader who is the descendant of the guy that first created the puzzle box trying to wage war and control the cenobites and the hellworld. The protagonist caught in the middle of it all while dealing with her inner demons (this is the only somewhat interesting bit of this movie). The main thing going for this movie is the imagery which creepy, nasty, bizarre and almost underworld like (which breaks away from the silly and goofy aspects of the previous 2 installments). And the imagery is the only thing that kept my attention throughout this whole thing because when it comes to the story, it's easily forgettable. The series after the 4th installment is heading to the criminal investigation movie with a protagonist that constantly hallucinates over and over and over again. It actually got really old after a while to the point of it getting more annoying than suspenseful. Although forgettable I give this movie credit for the vibe and the decent build up, although the development is poor if that makes any sense.4.6/10
