Did you people see the same film I saw?

Watch something else. There are very few redeeming qualities to this film.
Taraparain
Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
Derry Herrera
Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

An instant classic! The effects are shockingly good. A story of deceit that went horribly wrong, and then betrayal in the worst possible way. The acting is very good, as was the script, visuals and effects. Frank's coming back to life scene is incredible! His transformation make-up is gruesome and awesome at the same time! The cenobites are utterly grotesque. Doug Bradley is perfect as Pinhead.

As a child of the 90s I remember seeing video tape covers of Hellraiser and being very frightened of it. I also had gotten it confused with the movie POWDER bc of obvious physical appearance reasons.... I wish I had watched Powder instead. This movie just wasn't very good at all; it wasn't even that scary and I'm Easily scared. Like another reviewer mentioned I had way more questions than answers for this flick; I had no idea as to why anything major was occurring. Julia went thru all of this just for some penis?? Y were hooks the main weapon of choice? How was Frank able to escape? Y were the centobites designed the way they were? (Pinhead would be answered in the 2nd one, which was somehow an even Worse film). I just found myself not enjoying this bc I was asking myself too often "Why is this happening?" Also the graphics were jus bad (they made SHOCKER look like STAR WARS), I would've given them the benefit of the doubt if the movie had been better. I had no clue this franchise was still going on today, have no clue as to why. I jus feel like I watched something TOTALLY different from what fans of this saw. P.S. y did no one smell all those rotting corpses upstairs -_-
The Movie Diorama
I've seen some weird films, particularly of the horror genre, but this is definitely up there. A couple move into rundown house but unbeknown to them there is an evil presence beneath the floor boards that seeks human flesh. But why? How? That's where the lovingly kind (don't forget fashionable) Pinhead comes on screen with his fellow Cenobites. Ohhh what a sight they are, can only imagine its what I look like after a night out and crawling through a bush. The plot is pretty much Sweeney Todd but with chains, leather and plenty of blood. Much like a sex dungeon right? (...just mine then). The inclusion of the puzzle cube and the Cenobites are what makes the story interesting and ominous. I'm sure there is thick lore behind this puzzle cube which I can only presume is explored further in the sequels. I admired the ambiguity and imagination that the plot conveys. The pace was inconsistent, I found the second act to be too slow and the constant flashbacks of the first act did confuse me at times. Typically there's an indication that we're watching a flashback, but in this it kept switching back and forth instantly with no transitions. Slightly jarring. The main star is the make up. Absolutely authentic and the real use of prosthetics and effects just heightens the originality. Clive Barker doesn't dream, he just conceives nightmarish visions and graciously puts his ideas on screen. Skin being pulled by chains or a pool of blood suddenly growing into a raw fleshy human thing (totally trademark that), it's strangely beautiful to watch and the technical aspects are admirable. The acting is as you would expect, nothing fantastic but gets the job done. The final scene with the homeless man was somewhat unexpectedly weird, wasn't too sure what to think about it. Also, I wanted more Cenobite action! Not nearly enough screen time! However, as 80's horror films go this is a strong addition to the genre and completely memorable. Particularly Pinhead...who will tear your soul aparrrrrrt!

The original hellraiser is one of those movies that i actually didn't really like at first, but absolutely loved it after a re-watch. This is not a very fast paced horror movie, but also not too slow at the same time. I really think that the pacing is perfect in this movie. There is always something happening, but also not too much at the same time, so it doesn't confuse you. The acting in the movie is good. It's definitely not perfect, but i think the acting is still good and no one annoys me in any way. I also like almost all of the characters. There some characters in the movie that you're not supposed to like, so i don't like them. But the good thing is that they're not annoying, they're just.... kind of evil. But let's talk about one the best things about this amazing movie - the effects. Hellraiser has amazing gore effects. It looks really real and it looks better than most CGI in modern horror movies. And also this movie has one of the most memorable and iconic villains in horror - pinhead. Doug Bradley's performance is really good. Yeah i know i said that the acting is just good, but i think that Bradley is the only one who's really good. Overall, i can't describe how much i love this movie and i cannot believe that i didn't like it at first. It is one of my favorite horror movies of all time and i'll have to give it a 10 out of 10. check it out it you haven't already.
