Greenes Please don't spend money on this.
Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
Bessie Smyth Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Eric Stevenson The one thing that really sticks out here is that sequence when they're going through the sand. I can't really tell if it's good or bad that they put this near the end. Everyone would have left the theater early of course. I guess it's probably just more clever for them. Seriously, no dialogue at all? I didn't even realize this was a sequel to "Hercules Unchained". It guess it's just because that was a pretty forgettable movie too. I don't even remember seeing any of these men on the actual Moon. I guess I just wasn't paying attention. It was just a hard to follow film. I notice that when movies are really bad, I just don't bother noticing the plot at all. There seemed to be some pretty bad lighting effects in this. Maybe it was just the MST3K version, but everything seemed way too bright, especially at the beginning. I'm not going to bother getting to know the names of the actors in this series. The costumes are quite bad and the acting isn't good as expected from an old bad movie like this. *
Adam Foidart Hopefully if you're watching a movie called "Hercules Against the Moon Men" you're not expecting a great, insightful art film with deep characters or grand drama and you're instead hoping to have some laughs at a goofy science fiction meets fantasy adventure film. It runs a little too long, but it's got a lot of fun things going on that will really entertain. If you watch it with some friends it's sure to create some in-jokes that you can all share together for a long time. Yes, they will probably be the most obvious jokes you can imagine (I'll get to the biggest one in a bit), but you won't care. In no way does this even remotely resemble the Greek myth and that's part of the fun. You get spike traps, monsters that pop out of nowhere for Hercules to clumsily beat up, a really random and poorly executed love plot, an evil queen set to take over the world, a lot of obvious stock footage, some fight scenes straight out of a WWE match and most grandiose of all, the revelation that all of this is cause by "the evil influence of Uranus". If that sounds like fun, you will have a good time. Don't mistake this for a good movie though, it's entertaining trash. (On DVD, August 2, 2012)
Uriah43 Aliens from the Moon have landed near the kingdom of Samar and are terrorizing the people into sacrificing their children in order to appease them. Desperately searching for a way to stop this madness a man by the name of "Gladius" (Nando Tamberlani) appeals to "Hercules" (Alan Steel) to come to Samar and lead the people to victory against them. Unfortunately, the evil leader of Samar named "Queen Samara" (Jany Clair) has made a secret deal with the leader of the Moon Men, "Rudolphis" (Roberto Ceccacci) and she intends to stop Hercules at any cost. Now, as far as this movie was concerned I will just say that it had a good plot, adequate acting and some nice cinematography. Likewise, the dubbing from Italian to English was also quite good. However, the costumes for the Moon Men were pathetic and the overall film lacked passion. There was also one scene involving a dust storm that seemed to go on forever. In short, this wasn't a bad film by any means--but it also wasn't as good as it should have been. All things considered then I rate it as just slightly below average.
mstomaso While this film made a very funny episode of MST3K, I am reviewing the film itself, not the MST3k version.Giacomo Gentilomo and other Italian directors of the 1950s and 1960s made Hercules the James Bond of classical times. Smart, impossible to defeat and always pure of heart, Herc always got the goods and the girl. Sergio Ciani (AKA Alan Steel) plays Hercules this time. A former stunt double for Steve Reeves, Ciani does as well with this role as any of his predecessors. It has been noted that Ciani was shorter than the other Hercs in the series. While this is apparent in the film, it's worth noting that he was a mere two inches shorter than the larger-than life Reeves.I found this film to be much more entertaining and polished than it had a right to be. The directing, editing and cinematography were fine, and the only pacing disaster was the seemingly endless sand storm. the film's art design was superior to the rest of the series. It is not surprising that Director Gentilomo became a full-time professional fine artist shortly after making this film.In Moon Men, Hercules must face the evil power of the moon and the supernatural creatures who came to earth on a meteorite and use human sacrifice to wield mysterious power. In addition, he has to face a powerful and power-hungry queen allied to these creatures and the evil influence of Uranus. As ridiculous as this plot is, it is, at least, creative, and offers some innovative opportunities for very different fight scenes, sets, and subplots. The script is about as straightforward as it gets, and the English dubbing is actually pretty good.Silly, but harmless. An extra star for the costumes and creative use of effects.
