Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction

The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

There seems to be no end to the Don Camillo like Hochwürden series (did the French series ever got credit for this?), and by now it has found refuge as a made-for-tv film; at least we are rid of Georg Thomalla. But it is not any better (how could it?) than its predecessors, nor did the makers even try for a moment to add something new. We see the same story of the old Hochwürden films with new actors and actresses with a more modern flavour. Well, modern, even here there is a grown-up daughter who is not allowed to marry the man of her choice (is this 1993?).The title is very peculiar as after an hour or so and then only for a very short time something happens that has got anything to do with the title. I just want to say: this is that a bad film that even the choice of the title went wrong. Cast and directing are simply below standard.
