It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

No one dies, so the movie doesn't get too gloomy; yet it contains a lot of drama that you can relate to. The hospital, the insurance company, the police, and the ex-husband are no help at all, so the leading lady has to start over from scratch. It has a happy holiday ending and the characters' willingness to help those in need is in the holiday spirit. It doesn't hurt that the movie has Rob Stewart - the handsome guy who played Roan in Nikita and Nick in The Good Witch's Garden. He is the best actor in the movie, playing his character with a calm, friendly attitude and a subtle optimism that he tries to hide from his crush. The actor who plays the ex-husband has a calm demeanor too, but it fittingly has a cold and indifferent feel.

This movie is your typical bad times during the holidays and everything magically works out just fine! Not my cup of tea but might be good for others....The part I cannot get over is Linda Hamiltons acting (if you want to call it that). Her performance is like that of a first timer. Really shocking that her level of acting skill is so low. The other thing is that her character is written like this completely inept female. Doesn't know anything going on in her world..no skills...and she just rolls over and takes all these "lashings" that life has to deal her. Her "woah is me" character just makes you want to scream. I watched this twice to make sure....yep. Its that awful!

I managed to see this film at the fourth attempt after being constantly interrupted with family matters but I am glad I got to watch it. The story is not new but what is somewhat unusual is that the Linda Hamilton character chose not to take her husband to the cleaners after finding out that he cheated on her. What happened is that through a series of believable disasters she finds herself alone (her daughter goes to live with her father) and she loses her home. I agree with a previous commentator, I think this is one of Linda Hamilton's best performances and my only gripe about this film is that it does not appear to be on DVD as I desperately want to add it to my collection. This is a moving but easy watching film and well worth taking the time to watch if you come across it on your TV listings.

Home by Christmas has the feel of a real life story. Linda Hamilton stars as a woman, Julie, who's husband leaves her for a younger woman. Devastated, Julie ends up moving out of her house and into an apartment in a rough neighborhood. This is only the beginning for her.Hamilton is a jewel here--this is one of the best performances from her I have seen. Brenda Crichlow was incredible in the role of Julie's friend, Selma, and Rob Stewart also turned in a good performance. This is one of my favorite Christmas movies on the Lifetime channel. Home by Christmas is a tale of survival and hope in the face of terrible, terrible hardships.
