Protraph Lack of good storyline.
Dotbankey A lot of fun.
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Jerrie It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
Jane Syzygy I was expecting a lot more because of the ''omg this film was awesome'' reviews displayed on here. The movie included a few nice songs. The cinematography is very good, that made it more easy to watch but still, like I always say: stay away from the ''kids know how to party'' teen flicks and it's all good...Why? because that stuff gets old after 10 minutes, and even more when that's the only thing it has to offer to the audience.Points to be mentioned 1:Four old men reunited go on a drug trip, recycled situations/images of other movies. 2:Sasha Grey trying to act(topless). 3:Some funny lines. 4:Great cinematography (I voted 3 stars just for this) ...snd there, you got a movie!Maybe some teenagers will enjoy it because of the drug use,the somehow pretentious I'm a rebel mood and the couple of cute baby gurls, but still you're not losing anything good.
saharamacdonald I watched this film with my dad (who is 44) in the theater when it came out. I am a huge Mark Pellington fan, and this movie was every bit as genius as Mark's other features. My dad is right now going through many of the issues facing the 4 stars of this picture. I have cried along side my dad through divorce, financial dilemmas, and other middle age male situations that this film brings to the big screen. I felt the same way watching this movie as I do when I watch the Alice In Chains music video called the the " Rooster", also by Mark Pellington. The realism tears right through my heart and soul. When the movie pulp fiction first came out it was bad mouthed by many that did not understand Quentin Tarrantinos out of sequence scenes, Now Pulp Fiction is considered Epic, and Quentin a one name fabulous director. As with most geniuses, they never get the praise at first they deserve. As time goes by, this movie will get its just sub title, Epic Masterpiece!!!
Jasonlrdg4 This film is truly a darker, more drug and alcohol filled version of Lawrence Kasdan's "The Big Chill"! These four middle-aged men get together and try to relive those younger glory days in college, dealing with their individual fears and insecurities. What could possibly go wrong? Then the film goes even darker into suspense and takes this reunion into overdrive. There was a scene that had this psychedelic effect on me that really stood out and make it different from "The Big Chill".Overall, the movie was great, expect for the woman cop. Her presence didn't really benefited at all to the story. The writer could have flesh out her character further or maybe tie her to one of the other characters. Otherwise, it was a good ensemble movie to see.
nickelreviews I Melt With You left me in a dark fog very depressed and confused as to what comes over people. It's a dark and tragic story. Although critically panned currently holding a 13% Rotten Tomatoes Rating, I think these critics were confused. This isn't about a quartet of 40 somethings in the midst of a midlife crisis. This movie's about one's selfishness and the regret those feel upon realization. Rather than face the music, we watch these guys turn it up and further their frustration by fueling it with excessive drug use. If anything I believe it teaches us the dangers of addiction and greed. It shows us in living color that there are always consequences to your actions physically and/or mentally. A very wise old man once told me "you're never supposed to drink when you're sad or mad". These characters were both and the drinking was mixed heavily with various drug cocktails. After reading countless negative reviews on this film, I feel like a real outcast when I say I enjoyed it and this is why. If you haven't experienced this, picture this: You're at a big party. You've been drinking, taking shots, talking to everyone, dancing, singing, jamming to the music, etc. What started off very loud, quickly gets soft when you find yourself either waking up or sobering up in your bed, on the couch, or on the floor and you quickly begin to assess your surroundings and evaluate the night you had before. I've been on that scale as the party-goer and the designated driver. I've come to the rationalization that you can only appreciate this type of movie when you've emulated all the perspectives.
