It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

The first must-see film of the year.
Teddie Blake
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Brennan Camacho
Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.

Loved the acting in this movie. If you do not try to make it fit into actual myths and history, you will save yourself a lot of grief.

"Immortals" is an action fantasy movie in which we watch a young man who is the leader of an army and fights a ruthless King. His main goal is to find the ultimate weapon and eliminate humanity. Zeus chose this mortal young man to lead this army because he saw at him many things including honor, strength and he thought that this person can be the savior of the people.I have to admit that I expected more from this movie. I thought that it would be an amazing movie with an interesting plot and many twists and unfortunately, it was not. Despite that, I have to say that I liked very much the scene where the priestesses were speaking ancient Greek, the interpretations of Henry Cavill who played as Theseus and Mickey Rourke who played King Hyperion, and the visual effects of it but these were not enough. The direction which was made by Tarsem Singh was average and I believe he did not even reach his true potential. To sum up I believe that "Immortals" is an average movie with no many surprises and also a medium plot. It's not something extraordinary, it has a simple plot with some good interpretations which were made by its cast and an average written script. If you want to watch this movie just don't expect much from it and don't have high expectations or hopes.

Immortals (2011): Dir: Tarsem Singh / Cast: Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Freida Pinto, Mickey Rourke, John Hurt: The title seems to address the fact that mortals are propelling onward while the so- called gods are getting their asses kicked. We are given a laughable plot regarding imprisoned titans and the gods are not suppose to get involved. It is certainly clear that a screenwriter was never involved. Director Tarsem Singh had a much better concept with The Cell, which contained exquisite visual effects. Here the effects are every bit as impressive but the screenplay is every bit as suspenseful as a episode of Romper Room. Henry Cavill plays Theseus who is like half god or some ridiculous crap to that effect. He witnesses his mother's murder then he goes about kicking ass. He must obtain a magic bow where arrows magically appear. Stephen Dorff plays his thief friend but if he was really that good then he would have stolen a better copy of the script. Perhaps this dread was about as good as it got. Freida Pinto is laughable as a Priestess who spews water into Theseus's mouth to keep him alive after a capture. She will bang Theseus and no passion outside our laughter will exist. Mickey Rourke is far too talented for this relentless bullshit. He plays the villain who seeks the bow, and lets the titans free. We can predict a massive ongoing fistfight between him and Cavill. John Hurt apparently plays Zeus's human disguise so that he can interact with mortals. This is not Singh's best moment. This film deserves no immortality, but a few cracks at it will a baseball bat would be fun. Score: 2 / 10

This film gets a lot of comparisons to the likes of "300" and rightly so with the cast they had pulling the strings. Visually the film is strong, the cast is sexy, the CGI is tasteful and adds to the film rather than looking like a cheap add on. Despite the occasional continuity issue you wont be put off. When it comes to content though, that's a different matter. This film is the dumb (but sexy) blonde of films. While the casting was generally good there were a few moments where it seemed the actors where "hamming it up" a little, the big disappointment to the casting for me was Mickey Rourke, not because he isn't epic, purely for the accent and a the lazy style he brought - he could have been in any modern day 'down on your luck' New York based film rather than fighting Gods at the pantheon. In fact the comments on Rourke seem to be mirrored with other characters, I had no feelings for Carvill's Theseus character, and likewise other good characters you are supposed to root for don't draw you in as much as they should do. What you get with this film is a lot more style (appearance) over content - casing point, the mythology is wrong but there are a lot of sexy high definition slow motion shots of people being cut open. If we look more at content; having grown up reading a lot of mythology and Gods I appreciated the random twists in this film from what I am used to from literature (e.g. The Minotaur mask opposed to an actual Minotaur). What I didn't enjoy, and I've noticed other reviewers saying the same, is that the Greek mythology has been butchered a little bit too much in favour of making the film pretty. At this stage though I should stop and remember the mythology is mythology and therefore fiction and not fact, maybe like other reviewers I was a little hung up on what 'should' happen or be shown rather than suspending my disbelief and just watching what was happening. Like eating a fast food order, this film looks pretty and tastes pretty at first, but you know later that it won't be enough to sustain you and ultimately it's leave a hunger and a funny taste in your mouth. For this reason I can't award this film any more than 6 out of 10. My advise is just watch and don't question.
