Lucybespro It is a performances centric movie
Connianatu How wonderful it is to see this fine actress carry a film and carry it so beautifully.
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
Edwin The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
franklin I watched this movie on a recommendation not knowing anything about it. I was pleasantly surprised with not only how funny it was, but how well written the dialogue was. The performances from Lake Bell, Demetri Martin, and Michaela Watkins (none of whom I'd seen before) were both funny and smart. I've watched it several times and the jokes hold up and I think it gets better every time. I hope this movie is remembered for years to come. I could recommend this movie to just about anybody, and its become one of my favorite comedies to come out in the last 10 years. I hope Lake Bell writes/directs more movies in the future.
begob Slacker girl competing in the Hollywood movie-trailer voice-over business finds herself up for the plum role against her father's protégé.Great idea, bogged down by chatty Jewish family melodrama. The intro credits are so plain, when they should have shown the breadth of entertainment and competition that goes with this kind of art.Beautifully shot, nice performances - but no laughs. Just a very conservative screenplay that failed to use the idea and try different angles - the only character to create tension was the father, and he ended up sappy. Geena Davis popped up on a sour note, and the thing is ... she was right: the male voices were much better than the heroine's. But the story didn't really reflect on this fact. The soundtrack? Nothing challenging or dramatic, and the songs were '80s cheese.Overall, too cosy a romantic comedy.
DougInNC I hope you're lucky enough to see this movie - stream it on Amazon for free if you're a Prime member. Best movie in our house this year, mainly for the simple enjoyment of the characters that told the story. The casting, the acting, and the writing are all great. Why? The choice of actors didn't focus on big names (to me), but on people more concerned about the role. The acting was witty and consistent throughout. The writing was true to real life, with uncomfortable elements of conversation, and, yes, people talking over one-another at times (which some viewers did not like, but I found it genuine). This was the first time I can recall seeing Lake Bell. Was she great or am I just enamored with the resemblance to Amanda Peet? That comparison is more than striking. It seemed that she and Michaela Watkins truly were sisters, given their brilliant, somewhat confrontational, and I'm-there-for-you-when-it-really-matters interactions.Other things I liked: -Terrific sound mixing! Quite unexpected surround greatness.-1.5 hours told the story, and they didn't drag it out -No silly chase scenes or killings to hype the story-Not social commentary, just fun (other reviewers disagree) -Bit-part roles added, not distracted (neighbor, office staff)
etsiap I finally got to see the movie "In a World" that I had anticipated seeing for quite sometime. What a disappointment, I couldn't make it through the whole film. The thoughts that came into my mind while watching this movie are as follows: Why is there so much nerve racking not-funny converging dialog? Dimitri Martin took my mind away from the story, a movie with him being funny would probably have a chance. The concierge that the Irish guy fancies, I don't buy that he would give her the time of day.Lake Bell's Carol was annoying and unbelievable, e.g. the bathroom scene and the peanut butter eating and taking the guys sandwich out of his hand? At first I thought that these actions were some kind of character development that will payoff later - no such luck. It was like watching Amanda Bynes in a Disney comedy at some points. Except Amanda is funny! The performances and direction took away from the interesting subject.
