This is truly a coming of age story for everyone concerned. It tells the tale of Alex and her having to deal with a new found desire or moreover, an old desire awakened by the return of Grace. Mark, meanwhile is grappling with his overbearing father, Yvanne and the Homo-No-Mo meetings. He is desperately trying to be what his father and the community want but, finding himself drawn in another direction by the very handsome Tomas who ends up painting Mark's dining room and his life a better colour. You have Sloane who never quite learns tolerance but gets put in her place by the willful Grace. The winner of the parents is Alex's dad. Her mom is so stuck in her patrician ways and may never see past them but, her dad is all right. Viola is nothing short of totally cool and funny especially when she comments on Alex's mom's dress in comparison with Brother Daniel. The story of Bruce and Spencer is very touching and at times tear jerking. You can see and feel their love for one another. Robert, well, he's Robert. Typical straight man mentality. All in all this is one film very worth watching and is very finely acted.

Flat, inept dialog and worse direction. Stereotypes all. Every character spoke in the same, overacted voice. Each and everyone was stilted in performance, except for the singer near the end.Overall execution was poor. Camera and lighting were as flat as the dialog. Everyone represented a 'type'. There was no reality to the characters, nor was there and tone of clever. The film only came to life for about three minutes, when a gifted Gospel singer sang words not written by the writer/director.There could have been a good comedy with the premise, but it never surfaced.

This film reeks of after-school special. While I appreciate the effort made to provide small-town quirky humor on an issue that is being dealt with in a humorless manner in many small towns, the acting rivals high school plays (and the sets aren't much better, while we're there). Script is banal; the only reasons worth seeing this film are to hear the gospel choir at the end (the scene is annoying but the singing itself is good) and the relationship between Mark and Tomas. Their scenes are done at a very good pace, and the actors playing the two are not as uncomfortable in front of a camera as the others seem to be.
LITP (lostintwinpeaks)
An odd little movie, with many unknown actors. The comedy/drama in the film is mostly unfunny and undramatic, but some scenes do contain real impact. And one scene is very funny - when the main character goes to the video store for lesbian movies. What a hoot! Otherwise, a good attempt at creating a gay and lesbian movie. This is probably best described as a lightweight and interesting failure - but still worth a look.
