I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

This has become one of my all time favorite movies... great costumes, excellent CG, fantastic story, and a powerful cast...This is a must see!

With a fairy tale as famous as "Jack And The Beanstalk" it makes sense that we'd create a few movie versions made entirely about it. For a lot of the time, the film does in fact work. It's really let down by this ending. The story is that well Jack grows a beanstalk and finds not just one, but many giants living in the clouds above. They bring in some interesting ideas about religion and how it could be related to this story. Never thought I'd see that introduced, but it's still handled pretty well. I admit the CGI does look off in many places, especially the beginning. The ending is where it really loses it for me. I was really looking forward to see a big epic battle between the people and the giants. The plot features this magic crown which by some way mind controls the giants by whoever wears it. In the end, Jack wears it and he stops the giants from fighting. I really was looking forward to a big fight scene with everybody but unfortunately it ended because of this weird really unexplained item. It's then revealed to be a story said by Jack to his children and now it's modern times where giants are real. The buildup was good but it was mediocre because of that lame ending. **1/2

After watching this movie again after seeing it when it was released in 2013, I really enjoyed it as much or even more than I did then. The film honestly has really good pacing and I never found myself bored or disinterested in the film as the movie progressed. All of the scenes are balanced well and there aren't any that drag on longer than they should. The characters are relatable and I really love the interactions between the princess and Jack during the film. Their small moments in the movie are priceless and heartwarming. What I like most about the movie is the attention to detail for the time period of the movie. The setting is sometime after the plague and before Columbus set sail to the Americas after listening to dialogue about these events in the movie. I am guessing like 13th century England. But the castle, the technology and the lives of the people in the film are pretty accurate to the time period. Jack working as a tenant farmer for example was really common at the time. Also, there's a lot of arguments from the princess about societal roles that are really interesting to watch how the King and other's enforce the societal roles. I would watch again for sure because I loved the movie and wish more movies were made like this! 9/10

I know that many people would think that this is nothing new since everybody knows a story about the magic beans. But it is the idea of depicting such a story in an interesting and entertaining way that counts. This movie is a fairy tale in every respect, as it possesses all the required elements - the fantastic surroundings, lots of action, tense atmosphere, harmless jokes, simple-hearted good guys and unscrupulous bad guys with twisted agendas. Once again, nothing new, but everything neatly adapted for modern audiences. As the story goes, there is always something going on, thus the dull moments are rare, but unfortunately, due to such pace, there was no time for a more thorough character development.Other than that, I find this movie nice, amusing and easy to watch, and I therefore gladly recommend it.
