That was an excellent one.

It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

Personally.. I really enjoyed this film.. The cast playing the characters.. Andre playing Jimi etc Linda etc where all believable.. I liked the way the film unfolded, the way it was different in its take on a biography.. Didn't try to cover everything, a snapshot of the early time and place in Jimi's life.. those important first steps to fame.. I really don't get some of the bad reviews.. I guess that's their personal opinion as this is mine.. but being open minded.. this is a good film and worth a watch.. don't be put off.. take a look for yourself.. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised..

They couldn't use a real Fender Stratocaster????? Yes........this bugged me. This one detail........and they completely f**ked it up. When I saw that 'hooked' headstock, I said to myself: "OK........wait a minute......" I mean, if they were so damned careless with THAT.....then (I wondered) where else did they fail. Where else did they get lazy? Then I read Kathy Etchingham's review.......... I liked this movie because it showed his pre-fame NYC/London phase. Yes, I realize liberties were taken. But as a lifelong Jimi-fan I can appreciate any attempt to tell his tale. As to why the producers chose to veer from reality........*sigh*..... I was happy with Andre's portrayal. I've heard many comedians portray Jimi as either a seriously drugged out homeboy, or as an overly 'jivey' pimp-daddy. And Waddy Wachtel????? Really????? Waddy-f**king-Wachtel??????????...........good-lord......... ps. F**k Janie.

John Ridley's "Jimi: All Is by My Side" is a worthy effort, but without Jimi Hendrix's music it comes across flat. And as happens with a lot of biopics, there seems to be an emphasis on the unpleasant parts of the subjects life (we can debate the authenticity, although Kathy Etchingham has criticized it). The point is that Jimi Hendrix might not be someone whose life story you can film. At least not without his songs. I'd say that "Purple Haze", "Hey Joe" and Hendrix's riff on "The Star-Spangled Banner" tell more about his life than any movie can. He was the greatest guitarist of all time, and this movie doesn't do him justice. So remember what he said about the power of love overcoming the love of power.

I have never read a bio on Jimi so I have no idea what is real, made up, embellished or left out. I have only seen other bio-pics or docs on him. A two hour film of a persons entire life should be able to cut out all the boring bits and leave an interesting, if not realistic version of one's life....too bad this film didn't follow that rule. It had a slow moving pace that few directors can make work. Unlike Jimi's music this film has almost NO energy. Very little tension. The performances are OK and could have been better if the director would have utilized them better. Very little use of the song catalogue. Very little focus on the other band members. Other all, just not worth it.
