That was an excellent one.

Charming and brutal
Sanjeev Waters
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

Caught this movie by accident on TV and it was a pleasant surprise. I didn't feel like using the skip forward button but couldn't wait to find what happens @ the end. I don't remember seeing too many Bollywood song and dance sequences. It has some heavy weight actors and some new faces. And for a change the director didn't get lost in the twists.I was surprised to see Dharmendra in the role he has done. And Neil Mukesh sneaked up as a hero, which was a bit of surprise for me. The movie comes up short on showing the emotional side of people. But it has enough content in it to keep one occupied for the entire length of the movie, there was never a dull moment.

There are movies, which were huge box-office hits in their times, and nobody remembers them now and there are movies which were not box-office hits at all, and if you look at the DVD business of them, it is superb. Johnny Gaddar as you might have guessed is in the later one category. This is one that kind of rare movie, even if you casually starts watching it for just five minutes, you might probably will end up with the end of the movie. Since Shriram (debuted as a director with Ek Hasina Thi) is both the writer and director of the movie I would give all credits to him. As the story and the direction is just flawless. As far as the rating goes I will give this movie 8 out of 10. A must watch.

For a movie that reveals the traitor in its name, Johnny Gaddar remarkably turns out be a nail biting thriller. The movie follows an interesting narrative, that sets up viewers to clearly understand and watch the story unfold. Although the story is neither new, nor brilliant, it is the way in which it is executed that makes all the difference.Casting is brilliant, apart from Rimi Sen, who seems to be an appendage to every multi starer around. Acting was good. Background score fitted well with the movie. The recurring 70s thriller theme was fabulous, and thoroughly enjoyable. Although I have reached barfing point when I see Amitabh Bachchan in any movie, his film clippings were good to watch in JG.A good, unconventional thriller.

If one can judge a book by its cover, a good book by the words of the critics, a good movie is best assessed by its rating on IMDb. True, this movie may not have attracted the tens of thousands of votes that a typical western movie may have enjoyed, the 320 or so votes still rank this spectacularly at a 8 point something. And well, the comments, the quality of the prose, has been spectacular as well. rarely have i read such pleasure, and been inspired to write one as well. This is truly an amazing movie, and though we watched this very late - almost 3 months after it's release, it was still a very refreshing experience.Mediocrity has for long been the bane of Indian cinema (or any cinema at that), and to find something that raises its head above the average, is a fantastic experience. Every word that was put in favor of this masterpiece is completely justified. The casting was superb, and every single actor (including the cat) played a superb, well rehearsed part. Rasika Joshi, particularly, in the role of Shiva's mother, was superb.Looks like our spectrum of all types of movies is getting fleshed out nicely... after Khoya Khoya Chand, Manorama 6 Feet Under, this movie, and then an out and out entertainer like Om Shanti Om. 9/10
