JOHN’S OF 12TH STREET is a portrait of a century-old Italian-American restaurant in New York City, one of the last of its kind in a rapidly changing East Village. This observational documentary loosely follows the rhythm of the restaurant’s day, which swings between boredom and frenzy as the old rooms empty and fill. No one who works at John’s is actually Italian, but some have been here for 40 years, including two pairs of brothers and a father and son. JOHN’S OF 12TH STREET catalogues the overlooked details of working life and a vanishing facet of New York City.

Reviews

Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Celia A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Haven Kaycee It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
mrnewyorkny Loved this movie, which is a unique look into the world of New York restaurants and of an Old School Italian Red Sauce Joint in particular , of which are sadly disappearing in New York and JOHN'S is just one of only a handful of this wonderful historical old restaurants to exist in New York .. the place is great, I should know, I was a Waiter at Johns from 1981 to 1989 ... I was also one of the feature Characters in the Film and tell stories of Fellini and others. The film is awesome and sure to appeal to many, especially Italian- Americans and just about anyone, as almost everybody loves Italian Food and cool old joints like John's ...
