Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

Just Friends is a rather funny comedy simply due to the presence of Ryan Reynolds and the chemistry he has with both Amy Smart and to a latter extent Anna Faris. The film is harmless which is a good thing, since in many situations such as these real life occurrence, the film could have been far more juvenile and mean spirited. This is a problem for a comedy that centers a romantic relationship. When the focus is on other things, emotions don't matter so much, and oh, what a fun time we have. But then we come back around to the real plot, and nothing about these people's emotions seems real.Set in a simple but working plot which is set ten years after he graduated from high school a fat loser whose true love only wanted to be his friend, Chris Brander is now a record-label executive whose smarmy, womanizing ways go over in shallow L.A. Although we might already know what the end will turn out like (most romantic comedies are predictable), and simply by viewing the trailer, the journey and overall adventure is what makes this film better than it should be and better than several rom-coms. Worth a watch.
As a rewatch 07/11/18' Just Friends remains a good hearted somewhat entertaining comedy. The short run time makes the film less drag on.

I'm reviewing a decade old film. This kind of themes is very much done for the current era, particularly in Hollywood. You can't believe this guy did a film like this back then. I'm obviously talking about Ryan Reynolds. It was just for fun, other than that there's nothing to expect from it. Clearly we know how the story begins and ends, but we're only going to see the middle parts, how they developed it, especially the comedies. All the actors were decent, particularly Amy Smart was much preferred actress than what she's now. Ryan Reynolds with those dual getups was not bad either and Anna Faris was excellent in the comedy parts. Maybe it is a chick film, or close to that category, but the perspective of the story was from a man.Being a geek in the high school, how he transformed into a handsome man is the film. When he visits his hometown, all the old memories comes back to the life, particularly after seeing his old close friend who he had a crush on her, but never revealed it. So it is like his second and probably final chance to express his feeling. How it all develops and ends was the remaining story.Being a comedy, it has not delivered anything big. It might have effected good way, if I had watched when it came out. So not everyone who watches it would end up happily. It is not easy to suggest this film for everybody, but if you're looking for a comedy, some comedy, it will work okay. And again, don't take it seriously, even some of the jokes are too ordinary, but tried its best. An average comedy, but a good time pass film.5/10

Watched about an hour of this trash before I turned it off, absolute trash. Go outside and enjoy your life you will have way more fun than watching this movie. Not sure what other reviewers were watching by saying this is a good film, I guess the quality of films have sunk so low people just don't know what is a good or bad film.Plot is stupid and acting is bad. Comedy scenes are not funny and the story line is awful. If you want to waste you time then watch but be warned.Plot is stupid and acting is bad. As I scrolled down to my 1 star ratings and saw the other titles, I felt adding this to a rank with House of a Thousand Corpses and Seed of Chucky was a bit harsh. Regardless, I still felt the need to take a shower after watching this movie; however, let me tell you that the stink of bad movie does not wash off easily. The only thing that saved this from being 1 star was a fat suit, retainer-wearing Ryan Reynolds singing I Swear. During no other point in the 96 minutes of this cinematic torture tactic did I find this movie amusing, captivating or funny. Not only did it stick to the overly-predictable chick-flick formula that keeps you one step ahead of the writers, but I could not find myself able to relate to a single character on any one-dimensional level.Aside from the fact that every romance movie is (understandably) completely unrealistic, this one takes it a step further and adds a total realm of normalcy to what should absolutely be awkwardness from a 10 year long cold-shoulder. I will never think about this movie again--it has officially been filed with the rest of my regrets, even the regret where I was rejected by the fat boy with the tiny backpack when I asked him out in High School. Yeah, that really happened. In short, I hated this movie.
