Purely Joyful Movie!
Robert Joyner
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

I really liked this movie, much more since I had not read much about it nor heard from anyone who previously saw it. The story makes you feel connected with others in a "universal spirit" kind of way. It also makes you question the basic knowledge of WHO you are and what your greater purpose is here and beyond. Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges have great on screen back-and-forth as the supposed alien traveler (Schizophrenic patient) "Prot" from the planet K-Pax and Doctor Mark Powell, his human psychiatrist. The doctor hopes to discover who Prot really is, all while taking queues from his patient in examining his own life and inner demons. This is a very moving, introspective experience, with Prot pointing out the many oddities in logic versus behavior of his human hosts. Prot further puts doubt in the minds of all who meet him, making even the doctor wonder if there's a chance he might be who he claims. The movie has flow and tells a different kind of alien visitor story. I think it's a diamond in the rough and would encourage anyone to watch it. 8 out of 10 from this reviewer.

This movie.. man.. it takes you away to another place altogether. I don't usually write reviews, but i had to write for this wonderful movie. It is unlikely that you will ever see a movie like this again. The beautiful way it displays emotions and humanity, with both the lead actors acting superbly, is the reason that even after watching the movie once, i keep finding myself watching it over and over again. Kevin Spacey is one of the best actors of this generation, so is Jeff Bridges. The soundtrack is so immensely beautiful, that by solely listening to the music, you can find yourself transported to anywhere you like. It will change your outlook of life. Its underrated, sure, but as i said.. No words to express what this movie is.

Had never heard of this film before, there wasn't much on TV and I came across it on catch up. Thought it looked reasonably promising and I certainly wasn't disappointed! Prot (Kevin Spacey) is a patient in a psychiatric hospital, whose claims of being a visitor from another planet cause quite a stir amongst the other patients, and capture the interest of psychiatrist Dr.Powell (Jeff Bridges). As the story develops we see the effects of the charismatic Prot on those around him, including hospital staff and particularly Dr Powell.Spacey is just great in this role, giving the character of Prot a depth and charm that makes the viewer really care about him and his story. He's such a fine actor he can make any character believable. Bridges is also very good playing the part of the psychiatrist who finds himself questioning his own beliefs and diagnosis. It's a film with no crashes, bangs or wallops so it probably won't appeal to the action fans (which appear to be in the majority on IMDb) and it's not for those who like a neat and tidy ending. It's thought- provoking, poignant, at times humorous and at other times sad, but it is a very engaging and watchable film. I really liked it and it deserves higher than the 7.4 it has at the time of writing.

This is one of my "Go To" movies when I want to be drawn into it and forget my daily troubles. Kevin Spacey in the lead role plays "Prot" a gentle intelligent man who claims to be from the world called K-Pax. Jeff Bridges plays the intellectual psychiatrist "Dr. Mark Powell". Dr. Powell is a realist who has an answer for most cases that come to him, but Prot presents something that he cannot quite put his finger on it. Dr. Powell takes Prot to his home to interact with his family and the movie makes a twist here showing Prot in a different light. Prot makes friends with everyone, staff and patients at the mental hospital that he was placed into. K-Pax brings this whole experience to a head in the last 20 minutes of the movie entangling the audience in everything that was explained and understood to what was left unbelievable in the movie.
