Reviews

MoPoshy Absolutely brilliant
Borgarkeri A bit overrated, but still an amazing film
Sameeha Pugh It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
jehany-72-776584 I believe Lady-Bar (1&2) is the real Thailand, nothing is fake in this movie and I am sure the writer (Xavier Durringer) spent a lot of time in Thailand and maybe lives there to know so well about how it happens with this wonderful daily life that is sometime too good to last long. Thailand is only about love. Of course money looks at first sight as being "number One" but after 10 years going back and forth I realized that there is something much more beautiful to learn from this "Land of Smile" and this movie shows it all with good manners in a very elegant way. BRAVO !! :-)As 10 lines is not enough for my review to be posted in IMDb, I tell you again, if you love Thailand, you must see this movie and a big Bravo to Xavier Durringer (Writer & Director)
tiafix This is my first review. I enjoyed the film so much I was spurred to write. I saw it in a hotel in Laos, with English subs. The characters switch between French and English frequently, so the subs were crucial. The acting was superb by the female lead. The male leads kept it together and at some moments, were dead on. Yes, there's campiness and some lame jokes - but that's what's quintessential about Thailand. It's a lighthearted country, in some regards. It's a film exploring the differences between cultures, the sex industry thats rampant, and if true love can exist between the two. It's slow paced, beautifully shot, and different cameras/film were used so it comes across as amateur (for say, interior scenes) but top notch for exteriors which reveal the gorgeous Thailand playground that the leads frolic, fight, and forgive within. One of the questions the male lead explores, 'does she really love me for me, or just my money?' may seem dopey, but it's a question that every farang (foreigner) i know of, deals with, in Thailand. The dialogue, is spot on - and the drama of relationships across borders is going on right now, and has been for years, and this french film (series?) does an exceptional job of giving a glimpse of the lifestyles of the lady bar employees and the men who come to Thailand to enjoy them, fall in love with them, and tragically often leave them behind, but not always. I was baffled by the complexity of the leads situation and how it could, or if it would, be resolved. Perhaps, it's more of a chick flick, but, being a chick, i loved it.I'd watch it again, and recommend it to others frequently - if they can find it!
patrick_667 I met the cast while they were filming at Don Muang Airport. The actress was nice enough to take some photos with me. She is the same girl who played the role of "Pla" in "Tom Yum Goong" with Tony Ja. "Tom Yum Goong" was re-released a year later in the US under the name "The Protector". Pla was the Thai girl forced into prostitution in Australia. Unfortunately, this site doesn't have a way to post photos or I'd up load the ones I took of the cast while filming at the airport restaurant. Some old Japanese guy kept annoying the cast by loudly slurping his noodles during filming. The Thai waitresses were in hysterics at how oblivious the old guy was to what was going on around him.
Turntable_Junky I was involved in the filming of this film. It is being shot at location in Bangkok Thailand at the moment. The plot as i found out from the director is as follows: a relatively aging Frenchman comes to bangkok and falls in love with a strip dancer. thats bout it pretty much. i cant really say who was the main actor, because i just don't know him. possibly some one famous in France. his friend i have however seen somewhere on french TV. The main actress is supposedly someone famous in Thailand, although i severely doubt it. and just for your knowledge i will be appearing in this film as a visitor at the strip club. I'm the dude in the red polo. :D
