Such a frustrating disappointment

good back-story, and good acting

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

"Land of the Heads" is a very neat animated short which tells a horror story in a very comical and delightful manner. While there is a very clear influence from the works of Tim Burton (Not only in the visual style, but also in the main themes from the plot and the twisted sense of humor as well) it still manages to be something utterly funny and imaginative, with an unpredictable ending.Even when the story involves some macabre elements, the way in which is told makes it something very enjoyable, and even charming in dark and twisted manner. I would recommend "Land of the Heads" to any viewer who likes the films directed by Tim Burton and Henry Selick, and also to the viewers who like the films with a dark sense of humor.7.5/10

This is listed under the "humor" section of the "Animation Express" DVD but I think it should have been under the "Visual Delights" because this is just incredible artwork - a fantastic piece of "eye candy." The superb details and colors come out even better under the Blu-Ray version of this DVD, highlighting the work of artists under the Film Board Of Canada title. It's a horror story but will bring a few laughs to you, too, in addition to the theme of chopping people's heads off and using them as possible replacement heads.Yeah, it's a little weird but definitely worth a look. I won't ruin the ending because it's a surprise one, and a satisfying one despite the sordid situation on this strange island.
