ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Phillida Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
westsideschl You know immediately when a movie is cheap when the opening scenes involves long shots of a car. Quickly followed seconds later after the parents drop their daughter off at the college when on the way out the husband tells his wife he wants a divorce to marry his real love, which as usual, seems to be a realtor (why so common in movies, I don't know). The rest of the movie consists of mom deciding to enroll in the same college to complete her final year that she missed to have her daughter. A lot of highly implausible made-up students end up either liking or disliking our out of step mom. Movie consists of predictably weird, and not at all believable interactions between all parties - meant to be humorous, but just sooo dumb. FF to the end and for some reason Christina Aguilera makes a cameo which seemed as out-of-place as the rest of the script. I've like her singing in the past, but her brief cameo song was a pointless disaster. This script would have made more sense if converted to a horror flick.
wfairfan I am a devoted fan of Melissa McCarthy. She is naturally talented and can be hilarious in skits, movies and with no script at all in interviews. That said, I could not tolerate her parody of a typical upper middle class, middle aged Mom. I guess this was supposed to be the funny part of the entire film, as there are no real 'jokes' or physical comedy or sight gags. So that leaves the grating high-pitched, almost Cohen bros Fargo 'Marge' accent character that just annoyed me so much I had to shut the DVD off after about 40minutes. Awful. No redeeming qualities.
donna-renn This was a very fun and funny movie and I wasn't expecting much but I have not laughed so hard in a while! Both of us were cracking up at the one liners. You need a laugh, this is your movie.
purpleglitter-78873 This movie was full of old, stale, done a million times college cliches. The most disturbing part was the utter lack of any research to make the plot more realistic, very lazy writing. This writing duo should retire ASAP.!
