Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Ceticultsot Beautiful, moving film.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
tkleeman This movie is an unrecognized masterpiece. It has been dismissed as a failed romantic comedy. It is in fact an marvelous exploration of the grief that accompanies the loss of a loved one. Both the protagonists in this drama have lost someone, and are initially fractured human beings, unable to deal with their own grief. They eventually find love only because they are able to confront their loss, acknowledge it, and move on to new experiences. Enjoyable as a romantic-comedy, but much more life-affirming and satisfying as a meditation upon death. It also contains a relatively positive depiction of the leader of a cult or new religion, which is rare in popular media. In this regard, it can be compared to the Taxing Woman (Marusa no onna) series of Itami Jūzō, which also featured detailed depictions of a new religion.
Yesjim Wait, I got an idea...let's make a movie about this guy who councils people on dealing with death but he himself is the one who really needs help coping. We all can fill in the rest along with it ending happily ever after. Unfortunately i saw an empty movie held up exclusively by a solid cast. The only thing you're going to miss by reading the IMDb storyline and calling it a night is a great cameo from martin sheen. I've liked Marty in other things (particularly Apocalypse Now Redux, a must see) but pulling anything worth while out of this mess seems like a tremendous achievement. The 3 is all for Marty. Dan Fogler is also solid.
rbferre I watched this movie on cable in a Thanksgiving morning and almost ruined my day. A real waste of time. If you are looking for a light romantic comedy, this is not a film for you. If you are looking for a witty plot, that's not for you either. If you are looking for basic entertainment, look somewhere else. Underdeveloped characters, lack of chemistry, and, worse, it really makes the audience feel like the director thinks we are stupid. For example, the main character freed up a tropical cockatoo in Seattle - everyone knows it would not survive; second, he proposes a Home Depot (disgusting product placement, I am wondering how much HD paid for that) shopping spree to help curing a father from the loss of his child. Not bad acting from the actor who played the guru, but his actions were corny and unbelievable to me. He had a secret hidden from his audience. If he was really a celebrity, I can't believe that "big secret" (totally predictable) never came to surface before. Oh yes, and I can't get past the idea that his chin looks like his behind. Anniston's character was totally bland and never made a point. Even pretended to be a deaf lady to avoid guys hitting on her - not tasteful at all. She seemed like she was feeling sick the whole movie. Finally, the couple only gets to kiss each other in the last scene of the movie and - amazing - the kiss looked like anything but a kiss between lovers!! Avoid, avoid, avoid!!
mesmermann Ryan Burke (Aaron Eckhart) lost his wife in a car accident three years ago and wrote a book to get rid of his sorrow. The book was then released and has since held seminar for people who have worked their grief. When he returns to his former hometown of Seattle, he will hold a seminar. He is not so happy about it, because his former in-laws live there too. Burke's father (Martin Sheen) hates him because he makes money on his wife's death. But Burke does to help people. Then he meets a pretty flower girl Eloise (Jennifer Aniston), who live agents and decorate the hotel's beautiful flowers, and he is trying to invite her out, but it is not so little with her. He has not been out enjoying himself in three years. So when he comes out with Eloise, he tries to show her who he really is, but he has no inner demons to fight first. It is the most touching films I've seen in long time. Eckhart and Sheen play so well together that you start to cry over their scene (I did) because it was so touching. Aniston usually choose the more bad roles in movies like mean nothing. But then the role of Eloise and gave her a good career back in a bearing supporting role. Aniston is not doing much better when she plays the main role, she gives it more of a supporting role. Through the film we see Eckhart help a man go through his grief, as the cost to him everything. The scenes are very beautiful and the movie never gets boring, you just get carried away. There are no scenes that we can do without the film. This was Brandon Camps debut film and it was shame it did not come to the cinema (in Denmark).
