Brainsbell The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
Hendrik Kleve Again I am really amazed of the reviews of other film revieuwers about this boring film... Its not at all an interesting story, made by someone who has still much to learn about directing a feature film. Technically its ok, not more than that. Again a good example that in a year (this time in 1991) that the filmfestivals could not find a better film..... H.Kleve,Amsterdam,Holland about fil
SnoopyStyle It's the 1950's Madrid. Paco (Jorge Sanz) is getting out of the army and set to marry his commander's nanny/maid Trini (Maribel Verdú). She is saving herself for marriage and sends him to Luisa (Victoria Abril) to rent a room. He starts a factory job. Luisa seduces him and they have a torrid affair. Trini senses the affair and tries to win him back by sleeping with him.Victoria Abril is amazing. She is wondrous and does powerful acting. Maribel Verdú is a nice foil to her. Jorge Sanz faces the tougher task of playing the weaker sex and he does a great job. This is a movie of these three terrific actors in compelling performances.
ipzama The true story of a young man in the post Spanish War years in Madrid (Sanz), living between the love to his fiancee (Verdu) and the sexual dependence on his landlord (Abril) is used by Vicente Aranda to make another film in which sex and passion are the cause of the plot. The film has not a bad introduction of characters but maybe they seem distant; and it is this distance (time and habits) and the lack of script what impedes (obviously) to get involved in the story. The usual support that Aranda makes on explicit sex (although it is infantile in these years of XXI century) does not contribute to story and the plot is told in a fast way. This puts the film far away from the thriller it pretend to be.A brief and not intense plot and a foreseeable ending makes this film recommendable only if you are shackled to your sofa.Rating: 3/10.
johnny99-4-2 This movie is way of love between three persons. It is cool, sexual, pure. Victoria Abril and Jorge Sanz are great in their roles..besides the music covers perfectly all the drama.
