Excellent, a Must See

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
Brooklynn
There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.

Madame Bovary is an interesting movie with a good cast, but... It's not the kind of movie that I would be anxious to see again. Mia tries, but honestly, it feels like her character is not suitable to her, it lacks energy. The other actors are okay, but there's no one who really stands out or even a really charismatic character to you feel more empathy with exception maybe for Leon. My dear Ezra at first didn't convince me much, but soon his "delighted face" gets more appropriate to the naive, and reckless too, boy. The photograph is good, even with a shaky camera that can be really annoying sometimes, and the figurine (one of the only outstanding things here) is very good too, and it's really nice to see the beautiful landscapes. After all is an interesting movie, but not remarkable as it could be.

I like the film. Finally there exists a version done by a woman showing with sensibility the few choices of life for women in the 19th century. I thought the actors and actresses were perfect in their role. In the end, Madame Bovary finds herself without friends and solutions. She understands how naive she has been with men and has no woman friend. Her whole world has collapsed. She can only choose nature as her ultimate friend.I feel that in this version, Flaubert's book main message is being respected. It is mostly about a woman wanting to experience all the pleasures of life and not being able to do it. Because of herself as well as because of her environment.

I typically like period pieces which was why I went in hopeful. Good lord, this was just a incredibly terrible movie. I stuck with it to the end thinking (hoping) at some point some resemblance of a halfway decent story-line would surface. However, I feel as though the main character was just very difficult to sympathize with. I was just merely viewing a childish and whiney woman feeling sorry for herself, sleeping around and spending money. It was just...awful. I was not familiar with this being a film adaption of a book. Perhaps someone who actually read the book would have a better background as to the point of this movie but I failed to see it. If you read the book and get it maybe you will like it- the attire was fun to look at- that was the only remotely interesting thing about the movie.

Madame BovaryThe hardest part of cheating in the Victorian Era was removing all of your petticoats before you could screw.Fortunately, the unfaithful wife in this drama has plenty of time thanks to her husband's schedule.Married off to a small-town doctor Charles Bovary (Henry Lloyd-Hughes), adolescent Emma (Mia Wasikowska) is unsatisfied with her rural surroundings and her husband's absence. These doldrums quickly culminate in excessive spending and extramarital affairs with two separate lovers (Logan Marshall-Green, Ezra Miller). But when her affairs and increasing debt are exposed to her husband, Emma has no one but her past conquests to turn to for help.An acceptable adaptation of the controversial classic, this abridged version doesn't sacrifice the novel's numerous themes, or dumbs them down. Instead it cuts through the unnecessary exposition to create a concise account of this complicated character.Incidentally, Madame Bovary paved they way for future adulterers like Ashley Madison.
