it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

When a mixed group of Amreican and Chilean youths travel to a remote island in Soputh America, they soon lose their equilibrium - indeed, we're pretty much in 'Blair Witch' territory here, as panic descends in spite of the absence of any explicit external cause. Some people may inherently dislike watching a movie full of squealing teenagers, but director Sebastien Silva shows some skill here, as the innate tensions among the characters drive the increasing deterioration in their mood and well-being. In fact, I really liked the beginning; the end (in which something must, inevitably, be conjured out of nothing) feels a little more random, and insufficiently grounded in what went before.

This is a movie which is meant to be rooted in folklore – the description for the movie at Redbox also lists the same. However, the majority of the movie is filled with angst as a young girl has trouble dealing with adjusting to problems while on vacation. The bitterness of the movie is ten fold, but somehow it manages to just keep on going until the very end when the girl -surprise- dies and, what should have been the meat of the movie, plays out for a few minutes. The movie ends abruptly and I'm left to wonder why this movie was worth my time.I recommend you avoid this movie and spend your money elsewhere.Originally posted to Orion Age (http://www.orionphysics.com/?p=8023).

So this is supposed to be a thriller. Really!? If you're expecting a plot that twists and turns and keep you on the edge of the couch in suspense, do NOT bother with this! There will be some spoilers below here so if you don't want to have something revealed, now is the time to stop Reading!Lets summarize this Movie. A girl suffers from quite a severe mental illness (never explained what in the Movie). She's on a truck load of medication and somehow she gets to go with her cousin to South America with people she never met(you don't know in the beginning that she's mentally ill, but it becomes clear very soon)!? So, wait. Is she alone in the World? Who the hell lets their kid do this? It's mind numbingly stupid and unrealistic! Well let's bypass that "Little" thing and continue. She tells no one of her condition and apparently whoever let her go on this trip hasn't told her cousin about this. Yeeeeah right!? Again, who is believing this? She starts to behave erratically and weird, and also the people she is with is acting a bit weird too, as too not "give away" that she's ill. And no, it's not difficult to figure that out even though they try and "hide" it! So, they try and build up a suspense where you're not supposed too know if she's crazy or they are and it's a snooze fest since you already figured that pout a long time ago. At the end we have the Little twist with the Mapuche (not sure of the spelling) "shamanism". Oooooh, maybe she is possessed or something. Spoiler of the end coming up now!!!!!!!!!Nope, she has taken some medication, and some she apparently stopped taking, she is sleep depraved and she gets some kinda tea to drink. Some medication was muscle relaxers and she chokes on a huge tea leaf and no one notice since there's a shamanism going on at full blast and people are freaking out. Annnnd the end.Thriller? No definitely not! A drama that's trying to explore a "damaged" mind and the breakdown? Yeah, I can agree with that. If you usually have a hard time figure movies out, and enjoy slow obvious storytelling with basically no suspense (if you are one of those people you probably think it's incredibly suspenseful though), this is the movie for you. I gave it a 3/10. It gets 2 Points for decent acting and 1 pity point because it's almost Christmas ;)

To say I enjoyed the film implies the wrong responsive emotions. It is a very dark film: immediate stimulation, clear cut answers and jump scares do not come into it at all. The film is based around the concept of paranoia and anxiety, as experienced by the main character Alicia. The idea is that Alicia begins mentally unstable, then due to circumstance and unintended aggravation she quickly spirals downward. I am glad I watched this film and can honestly say I never found it tedious. I love the genuinely caring and involved friendship between Sarah and Alicia. I feel as though friendships are either watered down or made very 2-dimensional in many films. It is always usually about the love interests and other more intense relationships. Though I honestly love seeing warm, intense and in depth friendships played out on screen. As was seen in this Movie. Do not be perturbed by the 5 star rating! This film is worth a watch!
