The very well-directed CORPSE MASTER boasts some excellent production values, as well as some good performances. It opens (and closes) with short, animated sequences that bring to mind George Romero's CREEPSHOW (and CREEPSHOW II); even the music at those moments seems to echo the CREEPSHOW score(s)- although that could've been my imagination working overtime... Akui is the young and often unintentionally irresponsible assistant to "The Doctor-" The Corpse Master of the title. Like the MR. VAMPIRE movies, THE CORPSE MASTER deals with those whose job it is to "wrangle the dead." (Without these people, the Undead would no doubt wander the countryside at night, causing all kinds of mischief.) There's a cute little hopping vampire kid called Ding Dong (who gets kidnapped by a rival sorcerer) and the beautiful love interest, Ahua, who helps Akui rescue the kid (despite the bumbling interference of some Keystone Kops). A fun time for what it is.
