In the distant future, mankind lives on Mars, in cities that resemble those once found on Earth, protected from the alien atmosphere by dome-like force-fields. ScoobyMint Disappointment for a huge fan!
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Calum Hutton It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
michaeltrent-02137 Don't waste a minute of your life watching this. One of the worst movies ever made.
junk-monkey It's not great, in fact it's a pretty naff piece of junk but by the Asylums's standards it's a masterpiece. The plot is unfocused and all over the place and doesn't make much sense from one minute to the next. Most of the acting is one note (but then so are the characters so it's hardly ALL the actors fault - some of the dialogue is execrable) and some of the acting is okay. (The stand out was Arianna Afsar who did a pretty good job with a minimum of material.) The SFX are not terrible. All in all, the usual. Ho Hum.But there is one aspect to the film which was refreshing. The two young women trapped at the start of the film and who have to make their way through the course of the film from point A to Point B to do something important - are a couple. They're a lesbian couple. And nothing much is made of it. It's not played up for titillation. It's not polemical. That they are gay is not a problem for the characters, or anyone they encounter. It just is. They're gay - so what? Background stuff - and they both survive to end of the film! Martian Land not going to win any GLAAD awards but Yaaaaay! it's a step!
Richard Cullen This film is in the tradition of The Asylum's mock-busters, but is taking a very different tack to the film that has inspired it. For a low budget production, especially one from this production house, the effects are not actually all that bad - certainly watchable. The acting is also, whilst not perfect, far from terrible. The plot is fairly predictable, using the usual "family vs environmental disaster with long car chase" format employed in a lot of this company's work but the end result is certainly watchable and fairly enjoyable in an non-challenging way. This is the level that The Asylum should be aiming for more of its low-budget productions - before then aiming a bit higher if possible.
lordkrythic This movie had about the same budget as any given old-school Power Rangers episode, but with worse acting and even worse special effects. I feel sorry for the creators of it, because they seriously lack talent at what they do. Asylum has a long history of shitty movies, and quite honestly, I don't how how they can afford to keep making garbage like this. All of the actors were disinterested in their roles, and you could almost read the "man this movie is crap, when do I get paid?" expression on their faces. As for the script itself...if you were to give a child a box of crayons and a handful of paint, I promise they could create a better script than this. It's truly embarrassing that this movie even passed the brainstorming stages.1/10
