This is an astonishing documentary that will wring your heart while it bends your mind

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

This documentary has to be viewed more than once.... free falling/flying in Antarctica - I must have rewound that 20 times already. I do have one question - where are the credits for all the instrumental music in the movie? Some of these instrumentals are awesome.... the one that is playing when Shane is skiing is about as good a song I can think of to listen to floating in the powder. The only song credits listed (10 total) are for songs where someone is singing, but there are at least 9 instrumental pieces in the documentary. If someone has any idea of the title for any of these songs please forward. Thanks, and thanks for such a great production!

No idea who this guy was prior to movie. Evidently he was some sort of marginal professional skier. He plays pranks such as skiing naked. Lots. Some people think its funny I guess. He then gets into extreme sports and keeps pushing the limits for whatever reason. He has lots of buddies, grown men who dress like teenagers and have nicknames. They wear ski hats indoors for interviews. The high point is when they are protesting how its illegal to base jump at a national park (because the rangers think its too dangerous). Then a base jumper falls to her death during the protest. This was the only funny part of movie.Movie doesn't explain why a Canadian guy with an Australian? wife is running around the U.S. doing these things. Is there a powerdou---bag visa class? Who pays his hospital bills and for the helicopters? Watching this I was reminded of the documentary 'Grizzly Man'.This guy isn't funny or amusing, just malignantly immature. His wife is beautiful, why she would have a kid with him who knows. Lots of people live life on their own terms, they just don't need to be incredibly stupid about it.Somewhere out there is a guy inventing a new sport like pit-bull-testicle-slapping. Maybe they make a better documentary.

Being a lifelong skier, I knew who Shane McConkey was, but didn't follow his pursuits all that closely. After watching this fantastic documentary about his life, I am so much more enlightened about not only what he did, but just his general approach to life. His goal was never to kill himself taking unnecessary risks, but rather keep pushing to the next level after next level, well aware of the inherent dangers. The homemade videos throughout the film provide a close-up insight into what drove Shane, and I found it deeply inspiring. He loved what he did, period. Some may criticize him for being selfish, that he abandoned a wife and young child at home, but he wasn't the type of guy that was going to sit back in the rocking chair and wait for life to pass him by. I absolutely recommend to this anyone, skiers or non-skiers alike, to witness moments with someone who was tapped into the most pure essence of fully living life.

Incredibly good movie/documentary. Prior to watching this I had only heard his name and the longer I watched the more I enjoyed it. Everyone involved in making this film made it wonderful to watch. The story itself is simply amazing and the footage of Shane, his family, his friends and his incredible life is unbelievably awesome to experience. I would love to see this at an IMAX theater! Some of the first person views of his jumps makes you feel like you're there. I had no idea how awesome this movie and Shane's life was. So glad I saw it and I'll certainly watch it again- it's just that good. You don't have to be interested in skiing or BASE jumping to be blown away by it either. Simply put, watch this film!!
