Details

A tough-guy cop pursues two drug runners across the city to bust a large syndicate. Very much an anti-hero, Mitchell often ignores the orders of his superiors and demonstrates disdain for by-the-book development work as well as normal social graces.

Diagonaldi Very well executed
SoftInloveRox Horrible, fascist and poorly acted
Cleveronix A different way of telling a story
Sanjeev Waters A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
gavin6942 A sleazy, incompetent detective tries to simultaneously take down heroin dealers and a socialite who murdered a burglar. The only reason this movie is still known and watched today (2015) is because it is featured in what is considered one of the best episodes of "Mystery Science Theater 3000". Allegedly, the film's star hates that this film has been made fun of, but it actually has the effect of making it a bigger success. While reviews at the time were bad, and frankly it is not much more than your average film, it is not awful. It is not bottom of the barrel or anything like that. It is actually quite watchable. If a company (Shout Factory?) wanted to clean up the picture, get some commentary on it, and all that, it might be a good disc to own. A new soundtrack would not hurt, bur it is a little late or that.
michael_the_nermal Warning! Spoilers AheadThis movie could not have been intended as anything but a farce or comedy. Nobody who watches this movie will take Mitchell seriously as an action hero. Everything about this movie smacks of parody or over-the-top exaggeration. I think "Mitchell" was intended as a weird, eclectic comedy about an inept, fat, trigger-happy cop who shoots first, asks questions later, and beds hookers before throwing them in the slammer. The people who rate this the Worst Movie Ever have it all wrong: "Mitchell" was never intended as a serious movie, the way a Steve McQueen or Clint Eastwood "Dity Harry" movie might. "Mitchell" might be seen as a parody of those. C'mon, how else can you explain the pile of beer cans on Mitchell's floor, the generally filthy appearance of his apartment, the wacky "wa-wa-waaa" music after he abruptly shoots a suspect in the leg, or the cornball "my, my, my, my Mitchell" song while he and Linda Evans are in bed? Don't forget the famous chase scene with "hot merging action!"Speaking of which, "Mitchell" is part of a deservedly classic "Mystery Science Theater 3000" episode, chock full of fat and alcoholic jokes to complement Mitchell's glowing screen presence. The film alone might not be funny enough to merit a view, but the MST3000 commentary elevate this film to comedy gold status. Most of the comments are dead on, though there are some esoteric film jokes or dated jokes (the '70s soft rock score sounds like a 3M commercial? I don't really get it). Still, in spite of all that, "Mitchell" warrants a view if it is complemented by MST3000's sarcastic comments and mock lyrics to the chase music. Buy or rent the MST3000 episode and enjoy the antics of "the chubby blue line".
larryludwigpilot While this is a regrettable and wholly forgettable movie... there is the briefest of scenes when the bad guys send Linda Evans... playing the part of a $1,000 a night prostitute to Bakers apartment with the idea that she will keep him busy for the night and persuade him to drop the case. She arrives unannounced at his door in a slinky dress and boots to Baker's just stepped out of the shower in a towel and revolver. He offers her something to drink, and being a manly man...only has beer to offer which she accepts while sitting on the couch. Baker, standing over her pours the beer into a glass (she is a lady after all) and while observing her lovely figure overflows the glass and pours beer down her legs and boots to which he says.. "Oh, I guess the beer got excited.. do you want me to get you a towel?" Linda eyes him back shaking the beer from her boots and asks "Do you want to lick it off?" I don't remember the rest of the movie after that point as I lost concentration and was never able to get past that part.
Strangeworth Who's that studly cop who always gets his man and charms them foxy ladies? It's certainly not Mitchell. He spends most of his time looking at obvious clues to a crime, drinking beer, flirting with hookers, sitting outside a suspects house but never finding proof he did anything, scaring children, letting fellow cops jump from helicopters after he uses them to shield bullets, and drinking beer. They wrote this script as if the main character never actually finds a lead by himself, but rather gets lucky enough to stumble on to several. Mitchell is a film celebrating a more realistic American cop. A corrupt, lazy guy who gets lucky enough to solve a case and sleeps with hookers, then arrests them for it.
