Linbeymusol Wonderful character development!
Inclubabu Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.
Patience Watson One of those movie experiences that is so good it makes you realize you've been grading everything else on a curve.
Brennan Camacho Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
Granger This is a Class-A intentional schlock movie that wins on every level but one. To mention that first:Some unnecessary gratuitous boobage in a shower scene. Unnecessary for the scene, inconsistent with the rest of the movie, and actually distracts from the legitimately funny aspects of that scene. That one scene alone is why I rate this 4 stars rather than higher. Simply a very poor directing decision that detracts from the movie overall and derailed what otherwise would have been prime schlock. Now for the good parts: total nonsense, ridiculous script, completely ludicrous ending, terrible dialog, hammy acting... all of it intentional and spot-on. No, this isn't the funniest or best of its kind ever made, but for pure schlock it ranks right up there with "Deadly Killer Tomatoes" (which BTW, did not find it necessary to have a gratuitous shower scene). Probably one of the better of such movies ever made, but to be totally honest, strictly a rainy-Saturday flick. This is pure schlock with no redeeming factors other than it's intended as pure schlock with no redeeming factors. If not for the one scene of nudity I'd recommend it as fun family absurdity time. As it is, a bit of judicious editing would have made this a far better flick.
Leofwine_draca MONSTER IN THE CLOSET is an affectionate throwback spoof to the 1950s B-movie monster flicks that used to entertain cinema crowds back in the day. The story is about a hideous monster that lives inside bedroom closets and eats family members and pets that get too close. An eccentric Einstein-lookalike scientist tries to figure out how to stop it while the military go in heavy. Everything plays out in a cheap, tongue-in-cheek style with the emphasis on silliness. The monster is a cool-looking man in a suit with an extendable ALIEN jaw. It's pretty freaky and is played by Kevin Peter Hall in a dry run for PREDATOR. The film also deserves note for having a fine little cast with plenty of cameos. Henry Gibson (THE 'BURBS) plays the eccentric scientist while Donald Moffat (the underrated actor in THE THING) is the gung ho military type. John Carradine has a kooky cameo and Stella Stevens a shower scene that riffs on PSYCHO. Claude Akins briefly appears too. Most interestingly, there are child roles for Paul Walker of FAST & FURIOUS fame and Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas, decades before they became household names.
bfp13108 I was 30 when the movie was made and, then, just starting out on my career. The very first thing to grab my attention was Paul Walker who was obviously a kid back then. I have to wonder if he would have willingly taken the fame ride if he knew, even subconsciously, that it would end when it did. Of course, no one knows the day they will die but it's still a tad bit creepy to me to see this in retrospect. Then, I tried to find out more about Donald Grant online and there is NOTHING. I'm gay. I went through the whole AIDS thing (lived in San Francisco, now a NYer) which surely damaged my psyche and killed so many of my friends. I wonder if this was Donald Grant's fate. If you know otherwise, please tell me. I don't know; I can only speculate.I thought the movie was hilarious. I loved Howard Duff playing a priest! On first viewing I wondered whether the Alien monster copied Troma's monster until I looked it up and found that Alien preceded Monsters in the Closet by 7 yrs. So we know (wink, wink) who was copying who. This movie is very enjoyable and especially if you have Amazon Prime where you can see it for free.....WATCH IT! Luvs all of ya.
Backlash007 ~Spoiler~ Monster in the Closet is another dumb horror/comedy that is neither funny nor scary. This one is from Troma, but it looks a little glossier than what the studio normally puts out. I say that because of the cast and the creature design. I've never heard of the leads, but some of the supporting cast are rather famous. Henry Gibson, Claude Akins, John Carradine, Donald Moffat, Paul Dooley, and Stella Stevens are some good character actors to have in a project like this. Also featured are a young Paul Walker and Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson. I bet they don't even remember this one, and wouldn't admit to it if they did. Kevin Peter Hall (Predator) is playing the titular closet monster. The plot is simple: The monster comes out of the closet and kills people and nothing or no one can stop it. There are many attempts at humor, but most of it is just boring. It all ends in a silly finale where the world has to destroy their closets. The movie was apparently filmed in 1983 but didn't get released until 1987. I wonder why?
