Spidersecu Don't Believe the Hype
Tayloriona Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Yash Wade Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
Stephanie There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
A Schroeder I normally do not like musicals, but the thing about this movie is that it doesn't only focus on the musical aspect of it, but it has romance, comedy, drama, and everything else you want in these kinds of movies. Nicole Kidman and Ewan Mcgreggor really embody their characters in such a way that you actually fall in love with them and their relationship since the beginning of the movie. There are no words to describe how Moulin Rouge is a true masterpiece and in my opinion, it is not given enough credit as it deserves. Making a musical is hard, but making a good story out of one is even harder and the story of this movie is really creative and there is nothing like it. I hope everyone watches it and enjoys it as much as I do!
sunchick116-872-583383 I can't count how many times over the years i've mentioned 'moulin rouge' as a favorite movie and people go 'ugh i stopped after 20 minutes'. DO NOT STOP. KEEP GOING. the first 20 minutes are the mountain you must climb to the most beautiful view you'll ever see! Epic doesn't begin to describe this film! it is a spectacular masterpiece! a visual stunner set among a heartbreaking backdrop of love and jealousy and loss. you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll ask yourself what drugs you (and baz luhrman) were on, but you will not do, is ever again doubt the talents of Nicole Kidman and Ewan mcgregor. both deserved Oscars for this visionary film! the true definition of art and what it means to be an artist (an actor) it's easy to make films where you sit and cry (trust me you'll come out of this one doing that) but to sing and dance and be an ENTERTAINING film as well as an impactful one is no easy feat and this film accomplishes just that. (and yes i took off a point for the dizzying camera angles. i'm human too)
MissSimonetta I really enjoyed this movie. Despite its flaws (and boy, does it have them!), I still walked away satisfied with the experience. I only wish I could have seen it in a theater and not merely on my television at home! It is not subtle at all. Neither the costumes, characterizations, or editing are unstated whatsoever. The plot is basically Camille meets La Boheme, with big doses of farce comedy interspersed with tragic romance. Yet somehow it all works-- well, for the most part.I will admit, I prefer the comical scenes to the more emotional ones. The hyperkinetic cinematography, bright colors, and animated performances generally jibe better when it's all played for laughs. Still, this is an enjoyable film if you don't mind your movies being style over substance once in a while.
Byrdz I never, ever have written a "review" of a film I have not finished watching. Until now.Consider this a public service warning. SKIP IT ! NOW! Unless you really like to listen to contemporary songs in a 18th Century setting being sung by non-singers, skip it.Unless you really really like to look repeatedly at close up shots of lace and taffeta clad women's crotches, skip it.If all you want is a well photographed film of a pretty stupid story with totally obnoxious characters, then this one is for you. If not, (all together now) skip it. I wish that I had.
