Nonureva Really Surprised!
Mjeteconer Just perfect...
Merolliv I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Keira Brennan The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.
chris-2270 I couldn't take this movie. Maybe it's a culture barrier, but I have pretty broad taste and tolerance for many films including foreign (non U.S.) films. I had an expectation that my wife and I would both be pleased by what we saw. This was not the case and within about 40 minutes we abandoned the movie. The storytelling was poor and I quickly became confused as to what the point of the movie was. It was cheesy as some say, but that did not win me over. The production values were actually pretty high. The acting passable. But these two elements do not make a film ready for an audience. I try to avoid explaining why it is others writing in submit one favorable review after another for a movie I had to put down. If they are not paid publicists, then there's no accounting for taste, right?
sangepengyou Having seen a number of Asian horror films and Asian horror-sillies I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this. Much to my surprise, silly as it is at times, I got hooked.I've never quite known what to make of Sammi Cheng. But I liked this film even if her character isn't exactly the most likable when you first meet her most unexpectedly at her husband's funeral. In fact, learning that she is the sudden mystery widow of a wealthy man whom you never really see is just one of a number surprises here. And it's also one of the biggest surprises to the dead man's family and former girlfriend who are not just beside themselves with grief, but also horror at the thought of her and her seemingly appalling ways. And that is probably the only real "horror" here-- and that is how it should be.But, as the title says, there is more here than meets the eye-- like a left eye which inexplicably starts seeing ghosts. This is NOT the great Cantonese flick "The EYE" nor is it meant to be. ANd it isn't a would-be knock off. It is, at its heart, a supernatural romantic comedy-- but if Sammi's vision allows her to see ghosts, love makes her blind. The primary ghost in question has a distinctly juvenile charm and is at times obnoxious, but the mother-in-law and, most notably, ex-girlfriend may just be the most delightfully scary critters around and always the ones who want to scream. In fact, they are a scream. This is a light and breezy tale but a surprisingly nice diversion. Like its central character-- Sammi (May) this quirky little film has an equally quirky redeeming quality in the end.
sl83 With many news about Sammi stating that her character she play this time in this movie would be very different from the previous ones she acted in, I went to watch this movie with quite a little high expectation and I was totally fascinated by the ending of this story as it was fabulous.Firstly, I think Sammi Cheng made a very good attempt at this movie, though her acting still contains very much of her usual style which many people including me who adore, she managed to make a breakthrough performance and establish herself as a professional actress who can portray different roles. However, this movie is very different from the long string of horror movies showing in Hong Kong currently. The plot and the idea of the movie was fresh. This is actually a romantic comedy with a beautiful storyline and is actually far from being categorized as a horror movie.**Spoilers** Though the movie was far from reality and more of a fairy tale. It tells us about the power of love that exist even though a couple who just met for seven days. Even though, her husband might have died, he was always there for her and made sure she is going to be happy in the future before he fully "disappears". This is only revealed at the end of the movie which is just the right time the director could do so. On top of that, the title was so far away from what the movie really tells us and I think the director did so without wanting anyone to predict the entire plot of the movie which is even more brilliant.I recommend this movie for any couple out there and it's also a very funny and entertaining movie ..Go watch it... i rate it (8/10)
esteepswong Lately the horror-movie bug has hit the Hong Kong film industry. As recent as now there was The Eye and before that there were Visible Secret II, Inner Senses, Horror Hotline...Big Head Monster and the continuation series of Troublesome Nights to name a few. However My Left Eye Sees Ghosts is a fresh attempt by the in-separable duo of Johnnie To and Wai Ka Fai and here they combined a mix-genre of a black comedy with a little touch of romance. Don't be fool by the title, as you will NOT see any eerie ghoulish scene in this movie even with BOTH your eyes. It is, as though these days Hong Kong songbird Sammi Cheng has been categorized as a comic actress as she has not played a serious role in a movie for a long time now. Sammi is in her usual acting self once again here but Lau Ching Wan's talent is totally wasted in this movie although he did managed to show his comic side in his character role.In this movie Sammi is again playing a jovial and happy go lucky lady very much alike the role she played in her previous film, Marry a rich Man but this time she has a much meaner personality. The movie plot starts to develop after Sammi survived a suicide attempt in a car crash. Later she finds herself being able to see spirits with her left eye, a gift she then uses to help a deceased man (Lau Ching Wan) who also acts as her guardian angel, to fulfill his final wish. Get ready for a very unexpected ending in the movie. My Left Eye Sees Ghosts is indeed a black comedy. In fact almost all the ghosts that appear in the movie are funny looking (like the fat hungry ghost) and non-ghoulish. This film would be a fresh change as lately we have been getting loads and loads of horror stuffs from Hong Kong and it's absolutely fantastic to have a different movie theme although still tagging on with the ‘ghost' theme. Not really a good effort but worth a laugh or two.
