All that we are seeing on the screen is happening with real people, real action sequences in the background, forcing the eye to watch as if we were there.

This film centers around the youthful indiscretions that often occur between close friends of the same sex who haven't quite had the opportunity to have sexual relations with the opposite sex. We see the story from the point of view of both characters, Nico and Dani, who both care for each other as best friends. However, while Nico simply sees these occurrences with his friend as a way to ease his sexual frustration until the "real thing" comes along, Dani has in fact fallen in love with his best friend, and as is the case at that "awkward teen" phase, the situation gets awkward. As the film progresses, we see how both characters come to terms with their sexuality, and in effect sexual incompatibility, which drastically strains their friendship. Nico and Dani is a gay themed film, but since the teenage experience is pretty universal to human existence, I think any open-minded (and honest) adult would be able to relate to this slice of teen life set in coastal Spain.

I wish I had seen this a few years ago when I was going through something similar. This movie reminded me of what it felt like before all the pieces clicked together. Though Nico, the best friend, is a bit naive, it's still a great movie about friendship and on how tough it is growing up and realizing that you're gay. I almost didn't bare to watch at times, because the scenarios were so authentic. Especially the scene of the morning after and at the house of the older man just took me back in time. I really felt sorry for Dani, because he was too young and dumb in the way that even though he knew it could never happen, he still tried to pursue it. The acting is superb in my view, the boys really nail it. I only wish that I had had a friend more like Niko when I was growing up!

I completely missed the boat on this one - KRAMPACK (a.k.a. NICO & DANI) is an excellent film. To temporarily ditch any pretense of objectivity, this was very nostalgic - my adolescence was a good bit more modest, but the experiences and conversations (even the summertime setting) at many points through this film hit close to home. I won't rehash the plot, which is well-covered by previous reviewers here, but I will say that the film really gets the mix of unease and anticipation right in depicting the evolving relationship between Nico & Dani. On this front, it's a five-star gay-themed drama. The performances are quite expressive and naturalistic - no movie-of-the-week feelgood speeches appear here, and none are needed. The slightest changes in expression (contrast Nico's responses to Dani through the first 2/3 of the film, to his responses during the last 20 minutes or so) convey great warmth and understanding, giving him the ability to reaffirm his friendship with Dani (in a 'positive' statement greater than any speech) even as they both understand by film's end that the dynamic of their friendship won't ever be quite the same. On this note the film does have something to offer anyone - it's universal without getting saccharine, and deeply committed to the humanity of its' characters. There aren't any complex philosophical or political undercurrents here, but none are needed - the respect and graceful treatment afforded to two ultimately different characters are more than adequate. A fine flick.

First of all, I've now begun to plan a trip to Castelldefels and Cataluna. The scenery is spectacular! This story about denuded emotions between two teens is funny, heart-breaking and very, very European. Dani's displacement behavior is a bit alarming, but still accurate in context. Nico's love for and confusion about his best friend are equally satisfying as cinematic contemplation. As a particular lover of European films, this one is clever, twisted and completely captivating.
