"Noblesse: Awakening" is a 30-minute (without credits) animated short film from 2016, so still relatively new and fresh. It is a Japanese / South Korean co-production that is almost exclusively in the Japanese language, so if you don't speak the language just like myself, then make sure you get a good set of subtitles. Or just watch the Youtube video that stacked several millions of views in the last 15 months. I read people say that this half hour was the best thing in terms of anime in 2016 and I sure hope this isn't true because it would mean the level of anime right now to be relatively low. I saw nothing really memorable or spectacular in here, not about the characters and also not about the action really. A bunch of school kids gets drawn into a century-old battle between mythical/mystical creatures and the title includes the big good hero here, but I must say that Noblesse did not leave a lasting impression on me at all. The subtle shots at comedy here were not too good either. Basically everything you find in here is something you will find better and more refined in many other anime films, be it the characters, the humour, the action, the backgrounds or just the entire context. That's why I have to give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended and I probably wouldn't watch if this does get picked up for an entire season at some point.
