The greatest movie ever!

I saw this movie before reading any reviews, and I thought it was very funny. I was very surprised to see the overwhelmingly negative reviews this film received from critics.

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

Great Movie! As a Puerto Rican born and raised in New York. This movie makes you really think and appreciate so much that parents do for us. It really makes me appreciate everything my father has done for me and my siblings. Especially leaving Puerto Rico at a young age to make money and try to support a huge family left behind over there.I would love to know an update on this family. I pray that it got better for them. I think everybody should see this movie. Take it in to heart and appreciate life as our parents have set up for us. They set it up for us and it's up to us to better ourselves. Papi, Thank you! I love you!Marilyn Rodriguez Sepulveda Fishkill, NY

What can I say? The grandmothers struggle broke my heart. Those beautiful little people, will they also fall victim to East New York? I was born in east New York. 1/2 Puertorican, 1/2 Italian. But thank God my family left when i was five! If you want to see what drugs can do to the inner city family, watch this film. One happy note, the Food! Oh, my god, It was awesome. pasteles, arroz con habichuelas and everything else. I hope someday all my people get it together and shun the street and all it's evil pitfalls. The only way out of the ghetto is through education. There is simply no other way. Well maybe through the consciousness that no matter what pulls you out there that if it doesn't pull you in the right direction you have to fight it with everything you have.

When I saw Nuyorican Dream on HBO a couple of years back it brought tears to my eyes. It hit home, how I lived and in some way still do. I was so happy to see that someone had made this documentary on a PuertoRican family from NY with struggles and heartache from what drugs can do to a family and to self and see what sacrifices some people go through not being as fortunate as others. I as a PuertoRican woman from NY that struggled with siblings becoming drug addicts and in jail a mother who fought for her grandchildren and still taking care of us all, see this documentary as a wake up call to all who don't have it as bad just so you can see what some people go through in life and maybe just maybe you wont look down on us but see us as human beings that are Loving , Caring and all about family. Nothing ever brings us down but keeps us high with love for each other. I am so happy that I found this and was able to share my thoughts and feelings.Another Nuyorican
