TeenzTen An action-packed slog
2freensel I saw this movie before reading any reviews, and I thought it was very funny. I was very surprised to see the overwhelmingly negative reviews this film received from critics.
ThrillMessage There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
juliasathome Gorgeous, deeply moving, meaningful film. Loved it. All 10 times.
aditya-dighe I just saw the movie and in complete aw of it. I felt as if I was in deep meditation state and that effect is still on me.The story is about certain Ben Tyler who discovers that he has a stage 4 cancer and has a slim chance of survival. He decides to go on a road-trip on a newly bought motorbike leaving his soon to be wife Samantha aghast. The story is about how the Ben's ''accidental'' journey shapes up and what are the experiences he gets while on the road. The Canadian landscape shot in the movie is just heavenly and the soft tune of bagpiper in the background really gives you a feeling of cool breeze blowing in the summer.I recommend this movie to one and all. Just lose yourself and enjoy every frame of it because this film is for the keep.
TxMike Joshua Jackson as 30-ish Ben Tyler hasn't been getting much good news lately. An author, his first book only met with rejection, and now his doctor tells him he has cancer, and not just a localized type but cancer all through his body. He needs to start treatment right away, and there's maybe a one-in-ten chance that he will survive. This small, Canadian movie examines what we personally might do if we got the news that we might not have long to live. Ben's parents and his fiancée all want him to get treatment right away. But Ben decides on a different tack, he will get on his Norton Commando and ride west, across Canada, only to stop when he gets to the Pacific Ocean. With no itinerary, no timetable, and as he says, no incentive to save for retirement, off he goes.In the vein of the old saying "stop and smell the roses", he takes side trips, some even dictated by a breakdown or two. Unintended side benefits are seen, a rancher woman ends up breaking her routine and in the process meets the love of her life. A photo he takes for a German couple has a lasting effect in securing their marriage to each other. But it also has him reexamine his reasons for deciding to get married. The movie is narrated by an unseen character, Campbell Scott, until the very end, which shows a shot of him at the microphone in a recording studio. It is the script for the book that Ben writes, a best-seller, "One Week" about his week traveling across Canada. We never find out if he gets the treatment, or if he gets married, but his journey has given him a meaning for his life.Good movie. Netflix streaming movies.
Maurizio This is what I call a real gem. I have just finished watching this movie, and I'm still thinking so deeply about it. I'm a travel fanatic, what would I do if I were to find out what Ben finds out about his health and destiny? Probably just the same. It's impossible not to think about "Into the wild" when watching this movie and make a comparison. Both film are great, in different ways though, this one is probably more into introspection, the story is more "pruned" when compared to the American movie, the characters met by the main man are different, calmer, probably less American.I loved everything about this film: the landscapes, the message, the characters (Sam is a good and kind hearted girl which deserves better in her life, the families are described as warm and loving), the literary quotations, the music, everything.A gem really not to be missed. And Canada, wait for me, I'll be travelling there some time in the future!
