It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

Your blood may run cold, but you now find yourself pinioned to the story.

It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Having read all the bad reviews, somehow I was still too curious to resist watching this movie. Starting full of "ready-to-forgive-the- shortcomings" expectations I soon found myself spellbound by a beautiful piece of powerful on-screen poetry. This movie impressed me as profoundly as I have not been impressed by a film for a long time.I do understand, however, that it received so much criticism, because it is a piece that went too far ahead of its time, and so it does not easily find its proper audience simply because, most of the people watching it are not, themselves, that far ahead, and so do not actually understand what they see and why. Strong emotions and values may seem fake to a jaded viewer, yet they are basic to man, and without them, we would not survive. I loved this movie because it is moving, beautiful, and because watching it made me feel more alive.

I just finished watching this movie, and I have to say that it was the most incomprehensible movie I have ever seen, and no, I didn't forget to put the English subtitles on. In fact, I speak Korean, so the confusion wasn't due to sloppy translating. I can't help but wonder if the other reviewers who spoke of it as the greatest movie ever speak either language. I guessed I should have known that it stunk, when the highest accolade it received was biggest budget in Korean history. They sure didn't spend any of that money for high quality writing. Not only did characters pop in and out at seemingly random intervals, without explanation of who they are or where they came from (or why?), but the love story itself doesn't make any sense. First they love each other, then they hate each other for no apparent reason, iterate indefinitely. It almost felt like it was some movie I would flip to during commercials of a TV show. I mean, only from reading the back of the package, did I learn that the main character became an assassin for hire. They sure don't tell you in the movie. Furthermore, the main character himself is a self-indulgent, loathsome creature whom you are expected to cheer for, but only wish his "rival in love" had prevailed in the end. It would have been much better for everyone, including the audience. This film is dark blemish on the conscience of South Korea, an otherwise wonderful country.

An average script about two lovers, separated by class and misunderstandings, who never stop loving each other. Then there's some changes of loyalty here and there, and some fighting. Unfortunately, terrible, overly dramatic acting (this Jingha really knows how to look sad...he's also quite hard to kill), boring fights, and cinematography, scenery and costumes that look a bit second-rate compared to other films of the genre (Hero, Crouching Tiger..), though it's probably a bit unfair to compare, due to differences in Budget-size. One good advice: If the computer animated scenes look like crap (what's with the flowers in the beginning?), just drop them. So not very riveting, and too long, a pain to watch at almost two hours. I do love fight scenes with Cheese-metal guitar-solos though.

This film was probably one of the best Asian movies that I have seen. Bearing in mind the low budget, this film was spectacularly visual and excellently laid out. The plot has depth and style, and you know from the first scenes that this is an enchanting film with great actors and superb martial arts moves. Standing on the verge of fantasy, the film is beautifully tragic and not one scene in the film is inconceivable.I recommend that it is watched in it's original language (Korean), with English subtitles, the dubs are not at all effective and the Korean dialogue gives the movie a whole new tone.Definitely worth watching, a superb cinematic work.
