Ehirerapp Waste of time
Sexylocher Masterful Movie
Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Billie Morin This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
zameerpro There is nothing in this movie which can be enjoyed or admired. The reason i'm going with 2 stars for this movie is only for Amitabh Bachchan's role. I have to be really honest about the movie when it comes to the script. Its totally a big disappointment. Guess what, Vidya Bhalan is a Doctor in this movie and she does an intercourse with Abisheik Bachchan without any security. Where she does her doctorate in this movie without knowing the basis which results to birth of Amitabh. If Amitabh hasn't got any role for this movie then its an absolute flop. No story, No great performance, just waste of time. Don't even recommend your enemies to watch this movie by the way, time is very precious, don't waste it...
virindra Here we have a movie again with Abishek Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan. This time in a very rare story, at least that is what is told in the commercial. Abishek plays the father and Amitabh plays the son. At first sight everything seems to be very interesting. In Bollywood it's a hype to make a movie about topics that are generally avoided. So what can go wrong about this movie? Everything! The movie is so boring. Amitabh Bachchan gives his most boring performance ever. His voice and the way he talks are very annoying. His stupid monkey dance was totally unnecessary. The story was worked out very bad. Was this a kids movie with Amitabh doing the stupid monkey dance or was this a mature movie with all the political ideas that kids would not understand? I think this movie is more for teenagers, who are with one foot in their youth and one foot in their adulthood. Then there was this line a lady sang during the movie. Something with Ittefaq or whatsoever. What was this annoying! The same line was repeated again, and again and again... and again... And if that was not the worst, suddenly a man came up singing the same line! At the beginning of the movie you know Auro is going to die and that it will be a Bollywood tear jerker. So the end is not a surprise. A little girl comes at Auro's bed and talks to him. After the talking there is a beautiful moment between Auro and his mother watching Auro's father. This was excellent done! But that moment got disturbed by the little girl whose clumsiness wakes you out of your dream. Was the movie in overall bad? Yes. But there were some good stuff about this movie too. Vidya Balan is a very beautiful woman who shows that women can be independent. The bodyguard in the train who tried to do the stupid monkey dance acted very naturally. What I did not understand is that the movie starts not with Auro, but his parents meeting each other. The movie sure ends with Auro. Why? What happens with Amol and Vidya? What happens with Amol's career?
roohiahuja After strong recommendations, reviews and mass approvals for this movie, I was slightly disappointed after watching it. No doubt Amitabh Bachhan's (AB) performance was brilliant - largely attributed to his make up and the lisp to talk like a 12 year old. What was disappointing was that the movie lacked emotion. The movie was staged around a 12 year old boy suffering from this rare disease - Progeria, but it failed to give it's central theme more depth and understanding of the character. The boy's life is shown to be perfectly normal, school life is superb with a lot of friends and no social stigma whatsoever. Traditionally you will see this flaw in some other Balki directed movies as well - "Cheeni Kum" wherein you have this extremely happy cancer suffering girl "Sexy". The whole personification of some of his characters lack reality and seem to be overtly precocious. By the end it seemed just like any other Bollywood flick with the only difference being a child born with Progeria.Maybe I was benchmarking the movie to "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and in comparison the movie definitely failed. Also, in comparison to the movie "Taare Zameen Pe" which was staged around the central theme of Dyslexia where the character was an 8 year old boy, Paa was not a comparison. While it was a novel idea and a great performance by AB, I felt the movie could have been so much better for the 2.5 hours time that it ran for. Poor dialogues and average music did not make things any better. The great thing was the movie did not waste its time on showing the early romance between Vidya Balan and Abhishek Bachaan, which ideally should have given more time to focus on the central character- 12 year old boy. It should have focused more on challenges faced by the boy, his emotions, his understanding of the disease and the world as seen from his vision. In all, the movie lacks to integrate and have a unified central theme. The only take away from the movie is the brilliant make up done for AB and his performance which truly has no parallel. For only that, I recommend you make time for it and watch.
CAMKG One month before the movie was to release, I was not the least bit interested in watching this father-son-father story. I considered it to be a marketing gimmick. The reviews did not convince me to watch it either. And then my sister watches it and I decided I needed to see it. All she said was that is was a very good, very sweet movie. And even though I don't ever remember seeing a movie because of someone's recommendation, I decided to see Paa.Paa is a very gutsy movie. It is also a very smart and simple movie. It competently avoids a lot of pitfalls that the plot of the movie offers. It also avoids any pitfalls that the so called genius casting of Amitabh and Abhishek in reversed roles offers.Paa rests on Amitabh's capable shoulders, and my oh my what a performance! Two minutes into the film, you completely forget that you are watching the Big B - you just notice Auro. Balki's screenplay and direction are a couple of notches higher from his previous effort in Cheeni Kum. And just like his previous venture, he has surrounded the film with other fantastic actors like Abhishek, Arundhati, Paresh Rawal and Vidya Balan. Vidya Balan has done a tremendous job in the film. The dignity and maturity that she has lent to the role is excellent. In fact, Paa is really a mother-son story.Illayaraja's music is satisfactory as are other technical credits such as the cinematography and editing. The editing really lends focus to the screenplay. I can hardly remember a false step that the proceedings take. The only qualm I have is that Abhishek's politician scenes could have been shortened a bit.Amitabh just does not seem to know how to be a typical screen father figure. What a way to leverage his yesteryear super stardom. A lot of his peers have become a distant memory for either lacking humility, common sense, good health, personal discretion, ability to change or all of the above. And all of these factors are mostly in one's control. In my calculation, Amitabh has done 43 movies in this decade (starting with Mohabbatein). The ones I will remember him for - Aks, Aankhen, Baghban, Khakee, Dev, Black, Waqt, Sarkar, Viruddh, Eklavya, Cheeni Kum, The Last Lear and Paa. I know eh. He is 67. I just hope he stays healthy and passionate for another 30-40 years. I also hope that my sister never reads this and goes, 'I told you so'. 9/10.
