People I Could Have Been and Maybe Am

2010 "What would it be like to enter into the life of a complete stranger?"

Details

Entirely shot on a mobile phone, the film evolved from chance encounters in the streets of London: Sandrine, an attractive young woman on a mission to find a husband, Steve, a seasoned beggar, struggling with addiction and and Steve's girlfriend Precious, a poet. Blurring the confines between fact and fiction. the film raises questions about the relationship between filmed and filmmaker. The closer he gets to his subjects, the more the obstruction of his camera seems to distance him from them. Ultimately People... reveals a personal and humane space that only came into existence precisely because it had been filmed.

Reviews

Aedonerre I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
Catherina If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
batman99-836-615696 I had the pleasure to experience this new film created by the talented Boris Gerrets. The concept of creating a documentary through the lens of a cellular phone was most refreshing. I most enjoyed the story of 'Sandrine', a Brazilian bombshell, in search of love and a new life. leaving her young son in Brazil, whose little heart ultimately won the battle between relationship and motherhood...Steve and the world of the streets, and the hopelessness of drug addiction. A life so hard, living hour to hour, a struggle to exist, a father, who never had a chance to meet the only family he possessed. Precious. such a talent, such a passion for music, and the arts, destroyed by alcohol. The three separate lives, and their stories, were profound, yet fragile... the movie ended and I wanted more! I hope to see more films like this one, I also would like to see more of the beauty 'Sandrine', with whom I also fell in love with..all the best Mr. Gerrets!
misha_hebel This is a film that tells stories, unexpected in places, funny and poignant...so real that even though you may not be on familiar territory it enthrals and challenges at the same time. I missed the people involved when the film finished and a week later I am still wondering what happened to them afterwards. The ending was left to me and I liked that. The way the film is made also challenged my expectations but the rawness of the mobile phone footage and the interesting angles made necessary by discretion and closeness added to its uniqueness. As I say, it contained stories and just like a good book I felt loss at the closing and a keenness to seek out more from the author. Thanks Boris Gerrets.
