Bergorks If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
Asad Almond A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
Yazmin Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
Cameron Scholtz What's up with the male characters in this movie? They behave like 12-year-olds. The male lead belittles the woman. He tells her she's "ignorant", at least twice. When the subject of her virginity comes up, he laughs at her. He yanks her around by the arm more than once. If he wanted to go to Pakistan, he could have told her why. You know, communication? Instead he waits until she's devastated. Then he tells her...only because she's getting ready to walk away for good. Ditto regarding her brother. He physically forces her into a car against her will on two different occasions. The story itself it pretty funny. But I tired of the male characters inability to act like men.
Paul Magne Haakonsen When it comes to romantic comedies, then Asia has a tendency to do it just a tad better than Hollywood, and "Petty Romance" is a good addition to the romantic comedy genre from Asia. Not only does "Petty Romance" have a solid and fun storyline, but it is so well complimented by some really great acting performances. Seon-gyun Lee (playing Jeong-bae) and Kang-hee Choi (playing Da-rim) really have great chemistry together and help the story along so nicely. The story in "Petty Romance" is about struggling comic book artist Jeong-bae who enters a competition for an adult comic book and ends up taking on a female writer - Da-rim who has recently been fired from working as a sex columnist at a fashion magazine. They do say that opposites attract, and the unlikely couple are in for a colorful ride of ups and downs. The dialog in the movie is good and fluid, and there are lots of moments that will make you laugh and moments that are so painfully awkward in the movie that it is just hilarious. And again, this wouldn't have worked out so nice if it wasn't for the tremendous acting done by the two lead roles."Petty Romance" is a fun movie and it is a nice story. This is the type of movie that anyone can enjoy, whether you are a woman or a man, and whether you like Asian movies or not. If you enjoy romantic comedies, then I strongly suggest that you sit down to watch "Petty Romance".
KineticSeoul I didn't expect much at all from this movie, in fact maybe it's because I had low expectations for this movie or something. But I found myself really enjoying this romantic comedy for adults. I didn't really find humor in Korean movies all that funny, but it really works in this one. I got some genuine laughs and chuckles from watching this. I never really liked Lee Sun-Gyun as an actor in some of the movies he is in, mainly because of his mannerism and they way he talks but it worked in this movie. And his character was actually sort of likable for the most part. The actress Choi Gang-Hee played a character that starts off sort of irritating to watch but becomes likable bit by bit as the plot progresses. I am not sure it that was intentional or not but it went down that way. The plot is about Jung-Bae(Lee Sun-Gyun) the cartoonist who is trying to win money by winning a adult manhwa contest and hires Da-Rim(Choi Gang-Hee) who works on adult magazines as a writer. Yes, the plot is predictable sometimes but has many elements that make it from being a generic romantic comedy for adults. Definitely worth seeing, it's basically a well crafted romantic comedy for adults with a great execution. The score would have been hire from me if it pulled some really unpredictable stuff, but still one of the best adult romantic comedy for 2010 despite it's formulaic direction sometimes.8.2/10
