One of the worst movies I've ever seen

Nice effects though.

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

Pip-eye, Pup-eye, Poop-eye an' Peep-eye (1942) ** 1/2 (out of 4)Popeye is watching his four nephews and sure enough they don't want to eat the spinach he has made for them. After a spanking the kids finally eat it and sure enough Popeye regrets it.It's pretty clear that a lot of the Popeye shorts from 1942-43 were starting to lose their magic. This short here is certainly entertaining in its own way but at the same time there's no question that it's missing the charm of the earlier episodes. For the most part there was some nice action here and a couple laughs but certainly not enough to make the film more memorable. The highlight of the film is certainly the way Popeye spanks his nephews.

Popeye's little nephews, "Pip-eye," "Pup-eye," "Poop-eye" and "Peep-eye." don't like their spinach. In fact, they hate spinach.Popeye shows them how, after eating their spinach, they can do anything. In this room is a piano so, after a can of greens, he's hammering on those keys like "Paderooski." Then, after another can, he's "Fred Upstairs," the famous dancer. Popeye does some great tap dancing. His imitation of Fred Astaire is hilarious. The kids aren't all that impressed and still refuse to eat the greens. For that, they get a spanking, although Popeye is very reluctant to melt out that physical "punishment." The kids then eat the hated spinach. After eating the spinach and showing Popeye how great they can now play the piano, too, they exact revenge for the spanking! Popeye takes a beating in some creative ways. The old man really takes some punishment.Wow, what a violent family.

One of the last of Max Fleischer's Popeye cartoons for Paramount, "Pip-eye, Pup-eye, Poop-eye an' Peep-eye" ranks as one of the funniest in the series. The climax, in which Popeye's nephews beat the tar out of him accompanined by torrid jazz music, stands out as the highlight of the film.

This is hands down the best feature with popeye in it of all time! Poop-eye is a stroke of pure genius. He gave the best performance of an animated character i've ever seen! Popeye is a classic and this installment just adds to that wonderful legacy. Huzzah for Poop-eye!
