Amber dreams of escaping her small town existence and persuades her friends to accompany her to find an apartment in the big city. When their transportation breaks down, she and her friends gratefully accept a ride in the back of a semi. But when the driver refuses to stop and they discover the cargo is hundreds of cartons of blood, they panic. Their panic turns to terror when the truck disgorges them into a dark, abandoned warehouse where blood-thirsty creatures learn to hunt human prey, which, the friends realize, is what they now are... StunnaKrypto Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.
Cleveronix A different way of telling a story
SteinMo What a freaking movie. So many twists and turns. Absolutely intense from start to finish.
Yash Wade Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
Deliberate_Stranger I wanted to like 'Prowl'. I really did. Unfortunately all the potential was lost on the way. I have no idea why they had to shoot the movie in Bulgaria, most of it happens in a abandoned warehouse anyway. Acting is decent, the girl who played Amber was very cute and quite good but the script doesn't deliver any thrills and with every next minute you care less and less about what happens next. All characters are your typical teenagers without any background story(except for Amber) and they die so quickly you won't even care for any of them. There is some gore in it(and plenty of blood) which was well done but because in many moments the movie is almost pitch black, it doesn't impress like it could. Not much can be said about the vampires, there is not many of them and make-up is rather weak. Cinematography is so so and I didn't liked the editing much. There is no suspense whatsoever, action is kinda fast paced but still rather boring and ending is quick and extremely disappointing.I was expecting some good, interesting movie but 'After Dark' series gets worse and worse every next year.
starsteamer Having just watched this film I am trying desperately to think of a word or words to describe it and the only thing is: it's alright. There is nothing particularly bad about this movie but nothing particularly good either. It attempts atmosphere and tension but not particularly well. The characterisation is relatively bland and the so called jumps don't really well make you jump. The main problem is not the film itself as such but that it has been done so much better in many different other movies. It really is a poorly done Near Dark remake. In fact, I have watched episodes of Supernatural that were better. To summarise, watch the originals instead and don't bother with this.
scottdunning36 OK so after reading some of the reviews i was a little surprised to read that a fair few people didn't like Prowl. Sure it's no Twilight (thank GOD) but i thought it was more than OK for a low budget horror film. For those peop's who are upset because Prowl has it's own take on what a Vampire should be i have sad news for you.... They are mythical i.e. make believe and therefore a Vampire can be whatever you want it to be, yes yes i know, BLASPHEMY!! i too wish Vampires were real, and that i was one but unfortunately they are not :-( But enough of that, on to the movie...As said in other reviews, Amber is desperate to leave her home town of Famfield and when an opportunity arises she takes it however not without the help of a few friends (Roadtrip). Just as they get started all goes awry and the vehicle they are traveling in breaks down so they accept a ride in the back of a truck which is transporting blood and which just happens to be heading to an abandoned slaughterhouse which is used by Vampires as a hunting training ground. Lot's of coincidences i know.Murder and mayhem ensue with a surprise twist which i kind of liked. Also, as with most films these days the film ends with the possibility of a sequel.Movies like Prowl are never destined to be blockbusters but in a world with Z grade knock off's i thought Prowl showed itself to be a nice little B grade horror flick. Watch it if you liked 30 Days of Night, Blood for Chocolate (Twilight for Werewolves), Darkness Falls and The Deaths of Ian Stone.Cheers :-)
peteranderson975 This was one of the films shown as part of the After Dark Horrorfest. It has a low-budget and a cast of mostly lesser known actors from British and US TV. The film is about Amber (Courtney Hope), a young woman desperate to break away from Famfield, the small town she grew up in, and mostly away from her alcoholic mother. She gets a chance to rent a flat in Chicago and so her friends decide to go with her for a crazy fun-filled road trip. Their van breaks down so they flag down a truck driver Bernard (Bruce Payne) who is talked into taking them in the back of his truck. Bernard might seem like nice guy but he's being played by Bruce Payne so you just know something very bad is going to happen. Instead of taking them to Chicago the Bernard has taken them to a derelict slaughterhouse populated by creepy people with mouths full of razor-sharp teeth who pick them off one at time. The group of friends are pretty believable interacting with each other and are only annoying in a realistic way though we really don't get much of a chance to get to know most of them. This whole film centres on Amber, what she is going through, the choices she makes and what she discovers about herself and Courtney Hope does a fairly convincing jobThe creatures were fairly well done. They were never identified by any name but they seem mostly like vampires. At first they seem very formidable crawling across walls and attacking at brutal super-speed. Bu t they were a bit under-used for most of the film. I'm not too sure about Veronica (Saxon Trainor) who seemed much more like a TV series character and only seemed to exist to explain the plot to the audience and henchman was barely more than stage dressing. The pace in film is a bit up and down, starting with not much happening for a while then the action comes all at once a in rush of confusing fast cuts leaving the friends terrified and me a bit bewildered. After that the film drags a bit with scenes of listening in on important conversations and a lot of running and hiding and scenes shot with the dreaded shaky cam style. The film does recover a bit of pace towards the end for a neat little twist ending. For all its faults I think it is worth watching. I can't remember any significant nudity (booo!). There's some gore but I didn't find it excessive. One nice point I liked was the way the script avoids the cliché of mobile phones not working. It's the little touches like that kept my interest to the end.Rating 6/10
